DVD-RW questions

Hi, I did not see this in the DVD-ROM FAQ.

- Can I make a music DC (Using CD-R) with a DVD-RW?
(Probably)

- If I create a DVD with a DVD-RW, can I play it on my DVD player?
(I guess the answer is no.)

- What is the capacity of DVD-RW compare to regular DVD.
( I guess DVD-RW is not double layered.)

Thanks!

You might get 9.4 GB but not dual layer as well. I've seen double-sided blanks offered for sale....

You CANNOT play DVD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD+RAM, CD-R & Etc. on all standalone DVD player. Check your DVD players Spec.

Cinemaphile7, the next time that you are at The Good Guys, take a look at the Philips DVDR-985 DVD+RW recorder unit. The instruction manual will be enlightening as to what it can do with DVDR and DVDRW blanks and how many standalone DVD players will play discs burned by this unit.

Times are changing. As a prior poster said, it is true that CDR cannot be played on ALL standalone DVD players ever made in the entire history of DVD, but that statement DESPERATELY needs qualification. Basically, all "modern" players will play CDRs (vcd movies on CDR, mp3 without directories, etc). From almost zero compatibility, now you have 70% of the players out there able to read homemade burned DVDs on either DVDR or DVDRW media. If the store is adventurous, it probably has burned its own DVDRW demo already. If so, perhaps you can verify that the burn works in your player (bring it with you if you are desperate) if you have been a prior customer of the store (The Good Guys in my area remembers customers).
