Problem defragmenting my pc! Keeps starting over!

Ok, I had to uncheck the box for "check drive for errors" because it would just sit on that command for the 30 or so minutes....

Tried it several times and it will not go past that screen.

So, I uncheck the box as stated above and now I am getting:

Reading drive information.....

Drive's content changed: reastarting...

WTF? It will immediatly jump to 5% then state the 2nd message. Man, this pc is a POS!!! I sat here and watched it. Did it 10 or so times before I just canceled the defragmentaion

You have a program running in the background that's writing to the drive. Try closing all the programs you have running, including anything in the system tray.

If that doesn't work, boot into safe mode and do it there.

Kill everything running in the background except SYSTRAY and EXPLORER (ESP any virus-scanners or firewalls you might have running). DO CTRL-ALT-DEL, select anything other than SYSTRAY and EXPLORER, and click END.

I personalyl use Norton's Speeddisk (part of Norton's System Works) - it does the fefrag in half the time and does a much better job than the MS/INTEL defrag app in Windows. You might wanna look into it (and I don't have to kill anything running in the background, except for the virus-scanner which I just disable and reenable when I'm done).

Good luck!

I like VoptMe ...

by GoldenBow Systems at www.goldenbow.com and you can do a 30 day free trial.

I find it faster than Speedisk although the latter is perfectly fine.

Turn off your screen saver before defragging your HD.
