Need help adding memory...

Hey, I have a cheap, old, Compaq Presario (model 2254, IIRC). I went to their web site to see about upgrading memory, and this is what they said I should get:

http://athome.compaq.com/store/defau...ponentID=11222

My question is, surely I can get this much cheaper elsewhere, right? If I do go elsewhere, what exactly am I looking for? In other words, what do those specs that they list mean, does something I buy elsewhere have to match them?

Thanks!

You just need to look for 100 pin EDO ram. Crucial has it for $18.99.

i dunno. i know some types of memory are backward compatible... but you'd need to have more info about it than i do.

when i plugged your computer model into crucial, it didn't bring up an $18.99 module, but 66mhz SDRAM, CL=2, non-parity for $45.

i know, for instance, that 133 can be substituted for 100, but is the same true for 66? i vaguely remember somewhere that the earlier DIMMs had different voltage issues. Hopefully other dvdtalkers will either say "eeyore's crazy" or give further help :>

I dunno nothing, but the module that johnglass linked to had all the same numbers that the compaq site had. I bought it, and hopefully will soon find out if it works!
