Modem Hardware Woes.. Help!

Hey all..

I leave my computer on all day, so I figured I would turn it into an answering machine as well. So I purchase a Zoom Internal modem that have voice/caller-id. This modem worked great, except when it answered the phone and tried to use the voice it would lock up. The caller ID worked great. So I returned that modem and got another one which used a different chipset. This time the modem voice worked fine but the caller ID didn't work at all! So I gave up on Zoom..

Now I have a Creative Modem Blaster PCI .. and I am back to the same problem the first one had. When it tries to use the voice sometimes it works, but usually it just locks the system up. Resource conflict? I am running XP and all is IRQ sharing just fine. I think this a deeper problem than that. Anyone run across this before or have any ideas? I updated to all the latest drivers and I am still having problems.

One last interesting note. If I "disable" the modem in XP, and then enable it again it usually works great for 1 call. After that.. back to lockups.

I assume you have the caller ID service from the phone company to get it to work on your PC?

I've never setup the voice options on my modems before so I really can't be of much help. Have you tried dialing out on the modem to make sure that part of it works ok?

What are the specs of your PC? Mhz? Ram? You're running XP correct?

Have you tried contacting tech support of the manufacturer?
