Added RAM, TDK says I need to update my software

I have been trying to store photos on cd-rw's and TDK first said I didn't have enough RAM. So, today I added 256 to the existing 64.

I went and tried to use the Nero burning ROM and the cd-rw. The disc will stay open (and not finalize) like it was doing before I installed the RAM, but now I am having a couple problems.

When I look at my cd-rw's from My computer - E drive
I get the Error retry / cancel box it I right click and open or double click.
I have to right click > Properties > Volumes and select ok. Then I am aloud to double click the E drive icon to view the contents on the disc

I tried to add more pics to the cd-rw that is "open". I followed the instructions the guy gave me and put continue multisession, NEW, etc.... But, then I get an error message saying the contents on the disc may be corrupted.

I explained all this to another guy and he said I need to:
1) Uninstall / reinstall TDK Digital mixmaster / NERO burning rom

and if that does not help:

2) Check Microsofts web site to see if there are any updates for 98 Windows that I need

3) Check COmpaq and see if there are any updates on the IC or IE Bus and some other thing.

This has become a pain in the a$$ just to use these cd-rw's

Any advice on this?

The PC is a Compaq Presario 7360 (about 2 years old)

Also, is it normal that a cd-rom can not read cd-rw's?

Thanks!

You can burn normal CDRs and CDRWs but you can't open an existing CDRW session and add to it? Did you try xfering teh data off the cd, erasing the disc and trying again?

I take it uninstalling and reinstalling the software didn't work?

What version of Win98 are you running? If you're not running second edition you'll want to download Service Pack 1. I'd also go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download any updates it says you need under Critical and Recommended updates.

As for CDRWs in CD Rom drives, CDRW drives need a multi-sessional compatible cdrom drive. A lot of older CDroms won't be able to read CDRW discs as well as regular CDRs with more than one session on it.

Thanks for the info. Actually, I didn't have time to uninstall the software since I had to work. But, I have time this morning and will be jumping to it in a few. I'll also check on the updates for Windows. I'm not sure what version we have. I'll check with my dad and see. Thanks again!
