Computer tower fell off desk! Now it won't work!

From what I know

It was on a desk about 3 feet high and fell. Just the tower

It is a Dell P2 Optiplex

This is a friends computer. The case itself was ok, the side panel was forced our of whck, but easily fixed. I looked inside and everything seemd ok with the internal wires, cards and HD

I hooked it up to the monitor and other accesories, and tried powering it up. It starts up ok after pushing the power button. But no signla goes to the monitor at all. The computer appears to boot up though, then two loud beeps. After a few more seconds the computer powers down, and no picture on the monitor

Any advice?

Was the computer on when this happened? If so I would guess it's a hard drive problem.

First step is to reseat all the cards on the AGP, PCI slots and reseat the memory. They are probably loose.

yep.. reseat everything

if it still doesnt come up

unhook and remove everything except the power supply, memory, and video card..
these are all you need to boot up

if when you start the computer, you get a display.. then your ok.
and can start adding the components back in (normally suggest 1 or 2 at a time, so you can isolate the problem)

if it doesnt come up.. it could just be the video card..

make sure the video card and memory are in good and solid

definitly just sounds like something got knocked loose.. and it only takes one think out of whack to throw the whole system off..

also push in on the processor card (pretty sure all those optiplex systems use one).. this definitly would keep it from posting

2 beeps from a motherboard usually means that the memory is not present or is loose. Try fixing that.

Excelent break down for me. I will try that first thing when I go back there.

IF it is just a video card problem though, why would it keep powering down?
