Curiousity is getting the better of me....

Is it possible to burn PS1 or PS2 games to a CD-R? Do these cds have a different encoding method? I'm tempted to try, but I'm afraid I'll end up with several new coasters to decorate the end-tables in my house! Has anyone tried this? And yes, I know I'm infringing on several million copyright issues here.
