Anyone know when the live version of Xpress 5.0 will come out?

In a week or two.

I can't wait for InDesign 2.0 myself.

inDesign v. Quark

Scarecrow, I've been doing some research on InDesign because we're considering changing the work process here at work. Do you recommend that over QuarkXpress even for people who've been working with Quark for years? It sounds like a slightly better program, but I don't think "slightly" better would be worth the hassle of retraining. Any comments?

Hopefully never...

Thank heavens I don't do alot of layout anymore... but when I do I use InDesign, simply because I have a problem with Quark... I was trained on Quark... but grew a great disliking to it as years progressed...

That's why I'm a web person now.

We use it at our university, but another prof teaches it...

We switched over a year ago and it's been awesome. IMO it's better than Quark, not to mention cheaper. All of my people were die hard Quark people, but after we gave ID a test drive everyone agreed it would be better for us. ID 1.5 does slow down a bit when dealing with large multi page documents that are text heavy. This has supposedly been addressed with 2.0, according to some beta guys I've chatted with, which will make it even better. As with everything it's not the best for everyone. We produce large (200-500 page), ad filled books. An average document is around 16-32 pages and will have over 100 separate graphics and sometimes 40 fonts. It has handled this extremely well. When I try and use Quark now it just feels clumsy. I've played with the 5.0 beta and am not really impressed. Any questions just ask. Like I said I've been using it for over a year now so I know it pretty well.
