How do i check my monitor's refersh rate; what does it mean?

i just bought a sony multiscan m51/b lcd monitor. i was wondering how i check what the refresh rate is set at and what it means?

display settings.. go to advanced options under the display adapter

What it means is how fast the image on the screen is redrawn. At 60hz, it is redrawn about 60 times a second. Sounds fine, except that your eyes can actually perceive the "flicker" from the monitor at this rate, much like a flourescent light. If you're looking at the monitor under flourescent light, the effect will be even more pronounced. I recommend a refresh rate as high as you can set.

The refresh rate is how many time the picture is "refreshed" per second.

he has a LCD monitor. you don't need to adjust the refresh rate for LCDs... 60hz is fine.

i went in and its set on 60hz. i chose to show all referesh rates and it went up to 140 hz......but i got a warning that setting to the wrong rate could cause perminent damage to the monitor.


my lcd is brand new and it looks great, i was just wondering what the refresh rate thing was i kept hearing about. thanks.
