Why Don't the CDs I Burn Play on my DVD Player?

I have a TDK velocd 24/10/40 rewriter. When I burn an audio CD, it will play on my Sony Diskman but won't play on my Sony DVP660 DVD player. When I put the disk in, the DVD player reads "No Disc". I can't figure out why.

Any help would be appreciated.

I know some people had problems with the CD's depending what speed you burned them at. Try burning the next one at 1x or 2x. "The Real Estate Guy" had the same problem he burned his next one at 1x and it worked fine.

alot of time it depends on what brand of cd you use

if your using the gold back cds (sony, maxell, etc..) that are extra thick.. alot of cd players will have problems with them

Will your DVD player play CDR's? Many DVD players will NOT. Look at your DVD player manual to check on this. More than likely this is your problem. My JVC won't.

For a pretty thorough list of what DVD players support CD-Rs (as well as other discs/formats):

Try a CD-RW. My RCA DVD player won't play CD-R VCDs, but will play ones made on CD-RW just fine.

I'm having the exact same problem. I recieved a CD burner for Christmas, and CD-Rs read "no DISC" on my DVD player (worked fine on my CD player). I was then told to try CD-RWs, which also read "no DISC". I just don't think my DVD player is capaple of playing them. I'm trying to decide if it was worth buying a new player over (so I can watch VCDs, as well as music CDs). I've been wanting to get a DVD changer for a while, but I just can't bring myself to shell out the money since I blew a bunch of it recently.

Thanks for all the replies. Apparently my DVD player won't play CD-R's (I'll have to try a CD-RW, but I'm not optimistic).

Oh, well.

Bandoman

I have a CD player from 1995 in my car. It would never play CDRs, and seeing as how it was made before CDR was a big thing it is perfectly understandable.

I did figure out a way.

I do not have a good technical explanation for you, but if you buy the black bottom CDRs (like the PNY black diamond discs) and use a software called "Fireburner", and use 2X as your speed, you may be able to make it work. It works for me.

This method also works in my Pioneer laser disc player from the late 80's. NOTHING else I did would ever work. Technically speaking it should never work, but it does and it is reliable.

Jason - that worked! Thanks, man. I now know how to burn CDs that play in my DVD player.

Happy New Year, and thanks for your help everyone!

I'm going to continue my drinking now. See you all next year!
