"Pathetic Life" poll: Ever watch a de-frag?

I sit and watch my pc defrag almost every time. I say I'm not gonna do it, but Damn it, I do! It's hypnotizing and I just can't turn away!

...anyone else?

Voted sometimes.

I don't do them often. If they're short I'll sit there and wait (with the TV on of corse). I'll usually watch a few minutes of a defrag anyway to see how things are going. I need to start doing them on a weekly basis so it doesn't take so long when I do them.

Actually they do. If an NTFS volume gets fragmented, performance starts to suck. However, a 100% de-fraged NTFS volume is probably faster than any other file system.

I've watched it at times at old, small drives (170 MB, 240 MB...) but with tens of gigabytes, it takes quite a bit of time!

NT didn't come with one. Diskeeper or Norton are what you should look at.

what is even worse is when you watch the defrag in details mode to see the boxes move. then benchmark the drive as soon as it is done to see the small increase in speed

sure glad i did not do this a couple days ago
