DVD skipping in Windows XP

I've just got quite a few DVDs for christmas and I have tried playing them on my PC, I'm using WinDVD 2000, and the software renderer that comes with it. My PC specs are as follows:

900mhz PIII
128mb PC133 SDRam
39gb HD
NVidia GeForce 2MX (Running at 800x600, or 1024x768 - depending on if I'm using TV Out or not)
Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

The problem I am having is the video pauses for a second or two every 30 seconds or so.
If I have my virus protector on then it hardly runs, but I suppose that's because it's scanning the files as they're being read. Turning it off to run a DVD doesn't matter anyway.

If anyone can make any suggestions at all, then I would be very grateful. If you need any more info just ask.

Is DMA enabled for your DVD-ROM drive? Have you checked for any updates for WinDVD relating to Windows XP? You may also want to try PowerDVD. It seems to perform better than WinDVD in my experience, and they have a WinXP compatible version out.

How do I check if DMA mode is enabled in XP?
I've checked if it's enabled for the second IDE channel and it is, so I presume that means my DVD drive has it enabled?

As for PowerDVD the trial won't even play the DVD (Star Wars Episode 1 - Disc One)

I'll check for the WinDVD updates later.

I'll be back to check the messages tommorrow evening (6PM GMT)

Thanks again,
