OEM OS vs. Retail OS

Anything bad about buying Full OEM OS's vs. Retail OS's? I don't really care much for getting a box, and I can usually figure stuff out by myself better than the manual that is supplied with the OS itself. Any pro's or con's?

Also, which would you recommend, win 2K or XP? I use 2K at work, but thought XP might be good for a try.

I got OEM win98se, seems to be a regular cd and it had some kind of manual (fairly thick, never looked at it though)

That's what I was thinking, but thought there must be something that made it so much better than they add 50% to get the retail price

The OEM version might not let you upgrade over a previous copy - the full version will (the OEM version of W2K allowed me to upgrade a Win98SE). Also, the OEM licensee is responsible for any tech support, whatever that's worth.

Apart from that, OEM products should have everything the full versions do, save for the fancy packaging.

I like to do clean installs anyway, so that shouldn't affect me, but thanks for all the advice everyone.
