Running ME but software thinks I'm running WIN95

I am running a Pentium II 300Mhz system that originally came with Windows 95, but which I upgraded to 98 a month after I bought it and recently (and unfortunately) upgraded to Windows ME.

I tried installing Adobe Live Motion today and it will not install because it says that it doesn't support Windows 95 and I need to upgrade to a newer operating system. Odd, I am running a newer operating system.

What could be causing the software to think that my computer is running Win95?
