Windows 2000 problems, help.

I just installed Windows 2000. Things are working but not perfectly. For example, when I run Ulead Videostudio(see related thread) things really slow down right after I close it. The arrow moves all over the desktop very slowly. Then things return to normal. Also, I burned a copy of some software with my cd burner, but it could not handle 8x speed, which it was able to handle with Windows 98. It was able to handle 4x burn speed. Maybe I should consider myself luck since this burner is not even supposed to be supported by Win 2000. That some things do run more slowly is my main concern.

By the way, I have an Athlon 1.3 gig processor with 256 meg of memory.

I used the the Data Lifeguard tools diskette I got with my hard drive to partition and format it, then I installed Win 2k. Funny thing, though, is that when I boot up it ask if I want to run Windows 2000 or just plain Windows.

Okay, I downloaded the update from Microsoft and things seem to be working faster.

not only check microsoft for updates. look at new win 2k drivers for your major parts as well as your Motherboard chipset. for example make sure you have the newest via 4 in 1 drivers installed for win 2k if you have a via chipset based motherboard. also check your modem/video card/sound card for newer drivers.

sometimes it helps a bit.

good luck!
