Toshiba DVD-Rom Speed?

I had a Toshiba 1402 DVD drive installed and got an average transfer rate of 8.75x using DVDSpeed. I just installed a 1502 instead and got a blazing fast rate of 1.99x. What the heck?!?!? THe burst rate is a lot slower and the CPU usage is a lot higher. I thought this was supposed to be a faster drive. Any ideas?

Sorry...forgot to mention that I am running Win98SE on a Athlon 1.2.

Just checked and control panel says it is. Should I disable it and see what happens?

If you disable DMA it will be much slower. Maybe you should double check your IDE cables and/or your BIOS to make sure it is running ATA33. Also, you could verify to see if it is set as master (secondary) instead of slave.
