don't build them like they used to...

at my school, we have some one-year old hp e-vectras with monitors that are constantly on the fritz. for no particular reason whatsoever, some of these monitors will just start turning themselves on and off -- we're supposed to turn them off as if that did something. can anyone tell me why?

it's not just hp monitors either -- we had two studio display monitors at my workplace that went on the fritz after two years. what's the deal? my 17'' no name brand at home has lasted me almost 4 years already.

anybody care to comment?

we get the 17" trinitron monitors with our pc purchases at work.. and have have shelves and shelves full of unused ones, because we get a new one with each computer, but the old one rarely goes bad.. so we dont have to replace them very often

Ive had this 17" trinitron here at home for over 3 years without ever having a problem.. and I dont expect to have any problems before I upgrade it

Weird, they should last much longer than that. I am using a 17' Digital at home and it works great (I got it in '96). And my second monitor (Dual display with Matrox Dual Head) is an old HP 14' that I was given... It still works great, and it seems to be pretty old, the label is: Hewlet Packard Video Graphics Color Display... woohoo color!

well it is possible that they are not plugging them into a good surge suppressor so they are failing too soon.

otherwise i have no idea since my monitors have never failed. I always give them away to a friend or family member after a few years. I always plug them into a good UPS or suppressor.
