[changed] Can a small crack cause problems on a monitor?

[changed thread] This is on my used 21 inch monitor from Dell, there is a small crack in front on the top left in the plastic, can this cause problems? It works great (other than being dirty, guess Nortel employees didn't place much importance in cleanliness) but I'm just wondering if this could cause eventual problems?

(and to answer, my monitor did 1280*1152 and was 0.27 pitch... a TTX model, unsure which.)

I just looked in my last Québec Micro (not the last issue but the last one I got) and there is a store selling used monitors: IBM, NEC, Sony, HP...

14' VGA $10
14' SVGA $30
15' SVGA $60
17' SVGA $100
20' SVGA $200
(Canadian money)

I never went to this store tho so I don't know if these are high quality monitors. Morelikely they aren't... and the fact that he sells 20' instead of 19' and 21' is strange! (I am not saying there aren't 20' monitors but 19' and 21' is much more used)

You can get a new 17" for just over a $100. You should probably be able to get $40-$60 for a 1998 model. I'm assuming a .28 or less dot pitch and at least 1280x1024 res.
