dial up problem

this is hard to describe but I'll try
every once and a while (basically all night tonight) my connection seems to pause, or hang. Nothing will transfer in either direction. Then it'll start working again after a random amount of time, usually a few seconds, sometimes a minute or more. Repeatedly clicking on "details" on the status window sometimes will get it going again but I think that's just a coincidence.
Any ideas?

Sounds like fairly normal, but annoying, ISP/internet hiccups. I assume you've hung up and tried to get a new connection. If it keeps happening there are diagnostic tools you can use to check the progress of internet packets to and from the destinations. You could always report it to your ISP just in case they are having trouble and don't know it.

reconnected 3 times in 2 hours. usually I can go 12 or more hours with no problems (and disconnect of my own choice for other reasons) but tonight has been terrible. At least it's free dialup through school
I'll look into diagnostic tools, I'm sure I can find some free ones
