anyone ever been to maximum reboot?

i was at a site called maximum reboot lastnight from home.. dont remember how I got there

and anyways.. they have alot of beta software.. they had a application that supposably will let you watch real dvd movies, through a standard cd rom drive using media player 8

that sounds like a load of BS to me.. but I wanted to test it out

anyways.. I tried going to www.maximumreboot.com from work this morning to grab it.. and I guess that wasnt it, because it quickly started loading porn pages
so I was hoping someone else in here knew the address?

Reading a DVD off a CD drive? I'm extremely dubious. Wrong light wavelength, even if they could handle the density difference, and dual-layer would never work.

I have never heard of it, and never tried it.

Looks interesting though.

Found it in two seconds with a search engine and the term Maximum Reboot

once on the max reboot page another 2 second search on the term DVD and tadah it came up.

One day you may be this talented  :p

I doubt it will work. A software won't change the hardware of your CD-Rom (a firmware could do SOME modifications but reading a DVD from a CD-Rom?).

Anyway, try it and tell us if it works. I highly doubt it will work (in fact I am 99.99999999999% sure it won't work)

Sorry, I didn't read it correctly... It won't work in a CD-Rom for sure. This is an MPEG-2 codec that allows you to decode the .vob file. When they say "without a DVD player", they simply mean without a software (winDVD, PowerDVD, Cinemaster...) to play the DVD. They really mean a PLAYER, not a DRIVE.

Maybe that's because his first post said ".. they had a application that supposably will let you watch real dvd movies, through a standard cd rom drive using media player 8 ". I guess if you split up the .vob's and put them on a CD...;)

I've kind of been able to do this off a DVD with media player (something less than 8) with the registry tweak. Probably because I already have a codec from an installed player.

I thoguht this was gonna be part of the XP release anyways.

Yes, if you have Win98 SE (or later) you can modify play DVDs using mediaplayer (easiest way to enable it is via registry). And yes, if you install WinDVD/PowerDVD it will add the codec and mediaplayer will play DVDs (but I still suggest you to use WinDVD/PowerDVD :D)
