Best Operating System for Gaming

What does everyone think the best OS is for gaming? I use Windows 2000 here @ work and it runs pretty sweet. I have a couple of games installed on it (UT and Max Payne) and they both run good as well. I just built a new PC and I was wondering if I should throw 2000 on it as well. Windows ME is definately out. Just didn't know if I should stick with 98SE or try 2000. My system is composed of the following:

AMD Athlon 1 GHZ w/ Dragon Orb 3
Asus A7A266 MB
512MB PC2100 DDR Mushkin Memory
Leadtek Geforce 2 Pro 4X AGP
Soundblaster Live! 5.1

With all that memory would it be better to use 2000? This PC is mostly for games but I also use UltraDev, Flash, Fireworks, and Quicken. Thanks!

Windows 2000 for stability, Windows 98 SE for the ultimate compatibility with all games. Windows 2000 will run most games, but not _all_.

Check the games you play, if all 2K compatable than use that if not then 98SE. Then on Oct 25 upgrade to XP.
