For you AIM users :)

Found this while surfin, to get rid of the AOL Ads on the messenger Make sure that you back up everything!!!!!! it worked for me

"....about a very easy way to get rid of the advertising in AOL Instant Messenger. You do not have to download anything in order to do this.

Make sure AIM is completely closed down (signed off as well as the program not even running) before doing anything.

First, find the file aim.odl in your C:Program FilesAim95 directory. Open it in Notepad and find the word "advert" and delete the word "required" that appears after it. Advert appears two times and you will need to delete the word required after both of them.

Second, rename the file advert.ocm to something like advert.ocm.bak in case you need to undo this modification or it doesn't work.

When you restart AIM, you will notice empty spaces where the ads used to be. For those of you who like to make your desktop look neat and polished this tweak should help you out quite a bit."

AIM has advertising? Where?

If it's there, I guess I'm subconsciously blocking them out b/c I can't picture in my head where the advertising would be.

Are you talking about the AOL Instant Messenger logo that's between the menu at the top and the "Online / List Setup" tabs?

I haven't installed it... but... do a search for "DeadAIM" on google.... This is another program that runs and actually shrinks the AIM window to completely remove the blank space too...
