Need help with run-time error on 98 SE

I need somebody's help with a somewhat annoying glitch on my computer. Ever since my sister installed a bunch of crap applications on my PC, I have had this message pop up every time I shutdown:

RUN-TIME ERROR R6009
NOT ENOUGH SPACE FOR ENVIRONMENT
PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE

From what I gathered, the PC still operates fine. However, any type of environmental settings like default settings for applications would not get saved even if I made changes. I uninstalled most of the stuff that my sister put on my computer, but that did not make error go away. I am guessing there is somewhere in Win 98 [registry, autoexec.bat, or config.sys] that I could alter the "space" for the PC environment, but I just don't know where to make the changes.

Any help or input would be appreciated.

Try this:

Lower the amount of environment space with the following statement in the CONFIG.SYS file. This assumes that environment space is being allocated.
shell=command.com /p /e:xxxx
