Yeah, I downloaded it to check it out, cause my "old" version kept freezin up on me when I'd click on a URL from someone.

So far

When are they gonna update AIM Express to not crash so much? Just my thoughts.

I would love if it had an instant mail check while you type like Word does...that would be a nice feature.

The only thing that I dislike is that when you click on the "X" it doesn't sign you off. It just minimizes it to the system bar. I wish it would sign you out like it used to..

On the newest version you can go into options and put a check in the box that says "Sign off when buddy list window is closed". This will close the program when you click on the "x"

Gracias! I am really getting blind. I figured there had to be a way, so I went in there and immediately clicked on the sign off/on area and didn't find anything. Good find though!

It is in the "buddy list" area and is the very last thing you can check.

What else is new about it? I'm just lazy but hate the stupid reminder box popping up every restart.

I attempted to download it at work.... and I would advise anybody behind a firewall or with limited modification privleges NOT to download the new version. I wasnt able to as I received and error message regarding... "you need administrative privledges in order to download". After, when I attempted to utilize the old version.. my buddy list was gone. I'm just getting it back two days later... watch out!

New things, in addition to what was previously mentioned:

1. There's the Today Screen (by default, it pops up every time you start AIM, but you can turn it off in "Sign On/Off" of Preferences).

2. The Preferences screen is much improved.

3(?). Idle message (was that there before?).

Don't know what else.

It also brought back a visible meter to show you how fast you're sending messages. That thing where it'll block you if you go over the rate limit.

I think it added a "Send IM Greeting" icon

you can send your buddy list to a friend much easier.

It's easy to add comments to your buddies that you'll see if you put the mouse over there name. Things like their birthday or whatever could be a decent idea.

HTTP proxy support is also included.

Nice feature. It's easy to identify which AIM sn goes with which DVDTalk username.

Discovered something really cool about AIM 4.7.2480 and WindowsXP RC2 (maybe works with Win2k?).

When you lock your computer, AIM automatically sets you away! I lock my computer whenever I'm not at it, and I think this feature is neat (even if it's obscure).

(One more thing if you're using WinXP, Win-L will lock your computer. This shortcut alone is worth upgrading from NT4 or Win2k! (Well, maybe it's not the only reason to upgrade, but it's little things like that that add up to make XP great.) )
