Google Play Movies and TV app shutting down
Just got this email today. I pretty much never bought anything from that app. 95% of my purchases and rentals are through Vudu or iTunes. But, it appears if you are part of the Android TV ecosystem, you can still make your purchases and rentals. Just the individual app will shut down.
Google Play Movies & TV app is going away on 05 October 2023
Google Play Movies & TV app will no longer be available on your Android TV device from 05 October 2023. You can continue to buy or rent movies directly through the Shop tab on your Android TV.
You can find your existing purchases, including active rentals, on the Shop tab on Android TV, Google TV Android and iOS mobile apps, and YouTube. Please visit Google TV Help center or Youtube Help Center if you need help accessing your previous purchases.

I never linked my MA and Google accounts... wonder if I should before the shutdown.

As a freebie accumulator, I have dozens of films and shows that seem to only be available to me in that Google Play app. Guess they’ll just go away like my old Target stuff.

You may have to search for a title you own in some device apps to “make your purchases appear.”
Also, this is ONLY for Android TV and Google TV, meaning your television uses Android OS for apps and the interface.

Open YouTube, sign in to your Google account, go to Library, Go to Movies & TV. Voila.

Again, if it's not clear. Your already purchased stuff on Google isn't going away. It's just being transitioned to the new Android TV platform like Google Chromecast, YouTube or NVidia Shield. It can be viewed there and that's where you can make future rentals or purchases.
However, if you use a Roku, I recall they dropped support for Google play a few years ago.

Re: Google Play Movies and TV app shutting down
They had a glitch years ago to get almost every episode of Chuck for free, or real cheap. So that's the only thing I want from there.
I have about 5 other Google only movies. The rest are just single free episodes etc.
I thought it was weird I got an email from Google Chromecast offering a trial of MAX.
