Re: Discovery + streaming service

My 1 year $59 promo expired last week. For the time being, I'm not going to renew. Also, Discovery has no option for a year long plan. I like the service, but I haven't used it much recently and I only have so many services I can watch in one week. I'm going to wait and see if another promo comes again later this year. I watch it mostly for the food and travel shows.

$59 was a sweet spot for me for this type of service. It's just getting too expensive to hang on to too many services at regular price.

Its by far my least favorite sub and I won't be reuuping either next month. I watched for the spooky shows. :D

They offered me $2.99/month and even then, I am not interested. I did like a few of the exclusive cooking shows, but not enough to subscribe

Update

So shortly after I let my subscription expire, Discovery sent me a deal via email. $59 for 1-year like before and they will also throw in a free Amazon Fire TV stick.

Looks like I'll be re-upping soon.

Re-signed up today for 1-year/$59. Once you re-sign up, they email you an Amazon promo code so you can get the Amazon Fire Stick Lite, which is $30 retail. I don't really need the Fire Stick Lite as I have a Fire Stick 4K already, but I can give it as a gift to someone.

Overall, it's worth it. I'm getting $114 value of stuff for only $59. I do watch Discovery + once in a while for food and travel shows, so it will be worth it to me.

My subscription expired yesterday, I'd be interested if they offered me the $59 promotion. Nothing yet so far.

Never got that sort of offer.

But decided to go with the ad-free version for $6.99/mo. since I'm not renewing Paramount+ (still have a few days left, might try watching Infinite before my subscription expires) and I'm not paying for any other streaming service (wouldn't mind trying Netflix, but that price is way too much).

Are there still plans to merge HBO Max with Discovery Plus? This was a rumor last year, but I haven't heard about it in a while.

I mean if the bundle goes up in price like a buck, I wouldn't mind. If it adds the entire cost of Discovery+ to HBO Max, I would be pissed.

So playing with different apps and configurations to lower my bills…and testing out Discovery+

So someone please correct me if I’m wrong…but as far as I can see House Hunters & International are months behind?? What sense does that make?

It’s a weird app, some of the Food Network shows are whole seasons behind. I only subscribe to it so people in my family can use it. I just watch current episodes and seasons on YouTube TV.

So I was able to renew my Discovery Plus last year with some $49.99 promotional price, and it's expiring in a couple weeks. The website only shows $6.99 monthly plan as an option going forward. Should I cancel for now and see if it gets added to my HBO Max? Last I heard, it was supposed to happen this "spring" which should be very soon.

Maybe it was posted in the HBO Max thread but I thought I read that some Discovery+ content will be on Max but Discovery+ will remain as is.

I think all Discovery+ content will be on Max, but they didn't want to alienate the people that only want Discover+ and aren't willing to pay a premium, so they kept it separate (because screw HBO Max customers, they can pay). But I think the question is when and I'm not sure we know?

I don't watch much, but my kids are hooked, so maybe I let it ride a month at $6.99 and see if any details come out in another month.

Re: Discovery + streaming service

My 1-year, $59.99 promo that came with free Firestick ended on Feb 24th. I had totally forgotten about it. So I was billed $6.99 for an extra month. I decided to cancel today. I like the travel and food shows on the service, but I just don't use it often enough to justify the extra monthly expense. With the merge happening soon, I will eventually have access to that content again in some form whatever the hell the new HBO Max is called. So paying for this again would just be a waste of money. I much prefer to pay for my services by year than by month. With the exception being the Disney + bundle. I'm trying to cut back and not pay for more services than I realistically have time to watch.

Hoping that Discovery+ will run an April or Easter savings. Would like to resubscribe for the next season of Deadliest Catch.

I cancelled my subscription tonight after confirming the Discovery stuff I do watch is on Max.

I even commented that I don’t need 2 subs and 2 apps with the launch of Max.

For the 5 or so people here who have Discovery +

Warner Bros. Discovery has implemented the first price hike for Discovery+ since the streaming service launched in the U.S. in January 2021.

Starting today, the ad-free tier in the U.S. will rise to $8.99 a month from $6.99. The tier with advertising is holding steady at $4.99. In Canada, the ad-free rate is going to $8.99 Canadian from $6.99, and the ad tier is increasing to $5.99 from $4.99. Existing subscribers will see the increase on their next billing cycle on or after November 2.

Although WBD opted to continue offering Discovery+ as a stand-alone service, its main emphasis has been on promoting the rebranded and expanded Max flagship, which added a raft of Discovery+ programming last May. The ad-free version of Max is $15.99 a month in the U.S., while an ad-supported subscription costs $9.99. After the April 2022 closing of the $43 billion WarnerMedia-Discovery merger, the combined company’s management team talked frequently about streamlining HBO Max and Discovery+ into a single service. They wound up preserving the option to subscribe only to Discovery+ when research showed a resistance to the higher price point of HBO Max (now Max).
