Re: Apple TV+ -- News and Rumors

That's still a decent jump.
It already shows those prices in my account under Subscriptions/Manage.
Thanks for the pointer to Costco, I'll go ahead and lock in a year before I start paying the higher price. I used a couple of those promos listed earlier and don't qualify for others. There's not a lot of content on ATV+ that we like, but the few thinks we like, we like a lot.

Price in Canada went up three bucks from $5.99 to $8.99, screw that.

They're going to need to start cranking out more content if they're raising prices. They have high quality tv shows, but they don't have a lot of content.

Ted Lasso, The Morning Show and For all Mankind are pretty popular, especially Lasso. But that’s only 3 shows.

Those three, Mythic Quest, and Slow Horses are about all they have. There's only going to be one more season of Lasso too. Black Bird was only one season. I'm subscribed through December 2023 due to buying a full year before the price went up and the PlayStation 5 six months free, but I may have to reevaluate my subscription after that.

My assumption is they're raising prices now to pay for an NFL deal.

Re: Apple TV+ -- News and Rumors

Fwiw, I was on a free 3 month AppleTV sub from Target, good until January, and was able to add a year with the Costco $45 card. Might buy another card/code and wait a few months to redeem it.

Yes. I figured I should bite the bullet and be the test subject. I was good through Jan 2024 already between a free subscription and then the Costco card I bought a few months ago. I just bought another one tonight, this time an online digital code. I redeemed it, signed into my Apple account and now I'm good until Jan 2025.

I have a feeling the NFL deal will not be exclusive and will be available on several providers. Just a hunch, with the way the market has shifted to streaming..

Re: Apple TV+ -- News and Rumors

Somehow I'd overlooked the annual plan and had been paying the monthly rate since our freebie months expired. Went just now to change to annual and it already reflected the new $69.99 price. At least at annual it is $5.83/month compared to the $4.99 we'd been paying. Still would have liked to get it for $49.99/year at least before they upped the price.

If not you can see if a friend or co-worker does and is willing to help you out. I’m single and couldn’t find a good justification for a Costco membership on my own so I’ll have to do exactly that.

Re: Apple TV+ -- News and Rumors

You don’t have to be a Costco member to buy things on Costco.com. You get charged a 5% non-member surcharge. That’s about $2.25 on these Apple TV+ cards.

Turns out I had an online Costco account already yet don't have a membership as the closest location is 30ish miles away. The extra 5% wasn't an issue as the cost is still less than the new annual price. Although for some reason the order also included sales tax. Which makes no sense as streaming as well as Gift Cards etc are not taxable in our state. With tax and upcharge, the total was still just over the former annual rate so at least the next year will not be the new higher rate.

Re: Apple TV+ -- News and Rumors

I think it’s still a bargain. Between the great shows already mentioned they have great specials, Jon Stewart, other exclusives and movies, like Oscar winner CODA. Slow Horses I love. Black Bird was phenomenal. I also love Lasso and like Mythic Quest, plus, don’t they have Tom Hanks’ Greyhound? Been meaning to see that. That’s worth $7. Easy imo.

Yes... mine does not renew until October 2023 but already has the price increase listed in subscriptions.

Re: Apple TV+ -- News and Rumors

A friend was able to get me a code from Costco and I added it to my account and I'm good until next year now at the lower price. I'm thinking about getting another one to stack it like Decker did.

I was just thinking about a second card to stack as well. With tax and surcharge, it would be no different for me than just paying the $69.99 outright. At least I locked in another year for approximately the old annual price.

Bummer. I was going to grab another one. Oh well. Good through end of next year.
