I think he and his accountants cooked the books for those numbers. We'll see what the next quarters look like. The company as a whole still lost over $1 billion.

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

I do wonder how that works. Does something like filming TLoU count in previous quarters when they were actually filming it? Does it count mainly on the HBO side of the ledger or is it shared? Certainly cutting a ton of content and thus not having to pay residuals helped as well, but I'm not sure how consistent that will be. I guess we'll see once the change to Max happens and they (effectively) raise the price.

I noticed they have Bertolucci’s The Dreamers. I’ve occasionally looked for this for digital purchase but haven’t found it.

Do we have to re-download the app when Max launches?

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

I'm pretty sure you do have to get a new app on ios/appletv.

I was wrong, android and almost everything else standalone too.

Do I have to do anything as an HBO Max subscriber? You don't need to do anything. On May 23rd, the HBO Max app will become Max. If you have HBO Max installed, here's what will happen on your devices:
  • Amazon, Cox, Roku, VIZIO TV, and Xfinity*:
HBO Max will automatically update to Max.
  • Android, Apple, DIRECTV, LG TV, PlayStation, Samsung TV, and Xbox*:
When you open HBO Max, you'll be prompted to download the Max app.
Either way, HBO Max will become Max. Our Max app will have the HBO Max movies and series that you already love, plus an expanded catalog with favorites from Discovery.

Watch your email in the coming weeks for more info about Max.

*Devices are subject to change.

I wonder if Discovery Plus the channel and on demand will be free on Directv now if you subscribe to HBO?

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

My discovery+ subscription was going to renew in Saturday, I luckily cancelled it right before. I can a few days until Max starts. I’m glad. I’m a Roku owner and don’t have to download a new app.

I have the yearly sub for HBOMax without ads. Are they going to take away my 4K privileges tomorrow because of their new tier?

I thought they said you get to keep 4K for six months.

If you subscribe to HBO Max through an app store or directly through us (at HBOMax.com), there won't be any changes to your subscription price at this time.
[...]
C
urrent HBO Max subscribers will keep their existing HBO Max plan features for at least 6 months after Max launches.

This might have been answered and sorry if it’s a repeat, but do we have to download another app and login and all that? Or just automatic change?

So what happens if I'm watching something at midnight on HBO Max? Will my TV blow up or something?

Yes, but you can download a new TV.

As for me, I will watch the latest Shazam movie and avoid Joanna Gaines like the plague.

I got the new app on my iPhone. Looks like I can watch Shazam 2 and the Gremlins show with it. I can find the app on my AndroidTV but it doesn't seem to download.

You have to wait until after Midnight for Android TV and Android phones.

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

The app has updated on the Roku. So far, I hate it. It's very sluggish. And hard to find stuff. You have to wade through tons of prefilled lists. I wish there was a way to filter the A-Z listings.

The new Discovery stuff is just like a greatest hits. I mean, there's a lot of stuff. But it's missing quite a bit that's available on Discovery+.

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

Well, I think this is shit so far. It nuked my Continue Watching list, and it dropped the last (or first, depending on how you look at it) item on my Watchlist. I only caught it when I did an A-B comparison of my watchlist with the HBO Max app.

They dropped the Hubs and the Browse categories, both of which I used for content discovery.

It looks like Hubs are now "Brand Spotlight".

Thanks. That helps a bit. It’s just kind of floating there on the home page now rather than having its own navigation menu item.
