Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

I don’t understand why the press is making a huge deal out of Carter show being available on Max like it is the second coming of Christ. I mean, I get that Max would advertise it, but it’s almost like they pay for the attention. I’ve seen so many articles posted on social media.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

Wonder Woman was on DC Universe for the last year and a half before it went under. But, I guess being the timing with the movie premiere and fucking nobody had DC Universe.

FWIW, these are remastered HD episodes. I noticed for some strange reason when I watched one of the episodes on DC Universe, it was in 16:9. I'm not sure if that was an error or framing issue. These episodes were formatted in 4:3 when they aired.

To my knowledge, DC universe had the entire BTAS on there, along with Superman, Justice League, and JLU...

Despite having a Roku Ultra 2020 (4800x), WW84 is not showing up as being available in 4K at this time. We decided to wait a while to see if it updates later. Just want to watch it before spoilers galore start popping up.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

Well after reading the WW84 FAQ (which took a long ng time to load btw), it seemed like depsite the fact the app showed only HD 5.1, that it would actually be 4K with Atmos.

So we got play. And yep. 4K with HDR10 / DV and Dolby Atmos !

HBO Max did great with their 4K/Atmos feed. No drop outs and looked and sounded awesome.

My receiver is not showing Dolby on the display, which it does when it processes 5.1, -it's just giving me flat stereo. It looks 4K, though there's no specific display indicating that. This is often a problem for me with HBO Max, -about 50/50, -and not a problem with Amazon Prime and their 4K product. Anybody know a way to trick it into reading the 5.1 (I've re-started a few times).

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

Ok, so I’m having an issue on my standard HD for WW84. It’s showing the movie in a yellowing/washed out color. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but to no avail. The weird thing is when I cast from my phone it’s perfectly colorized, but not using the tv HBO Max app and have hardly an interface.

Can someone please help me out quickly? Other movies are perfectly fine.

Also, I play the 3 minute opening scene they have option for and that’s totally fine.
Thanks in advance.

If everything else with the app is fine but only this movie is washed out, I'd check it out again either in the morning or give it another day. Maybe it's a bandwidth thing since everyone else is watching the movie too.

So what app, specifically, has the issue? An app built into your Smart TV? What brand/model TV?

The part about it being "washed out" sounds like they're streaming you the HDR version, and the app isn't processing it correctly. Maybe the app hasn't been updated to handle the new HDR video streams from WW84, since it's the first title to have HDR as an option on HBO Max.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

I watched the 1080p stream using my old Chromecast but my brother watched 4k. I sent him a screenshot at the end which was around 1.85 aspect ratio and he sent back his scene at around 2.35. Has anyone else watching in 1080 also noticed this difference?

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

There were scenes shot in IMAX and we noticed a ratio change between some scenes. The end was 1.85:1 and possibly the beginning. There might have been some throughout as well.

We had a 4K stream so can't comment on the 1080p stream.

WW84 filmed Aspect Ratios
1.43 : 1 (some scenes: 70mm IMAX)
1.90 : 1 (some scenes: Digital IMAX)
2.39 : 1

The IMAX scenes were definitely cropped down to 1.85:1 with small black bars or 1.78:1 with no black bars. I'd have to watch again to note which were used.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

It is hard to tell exactly what plays WW84 in 4k and Atmos. My Roku Ultra from last year doesn't seem to be on the list. But I pulled it up and sure enough, it is Atmos and 4k. Pretty sure there is no DV but that doesn't matter because my TV doesn't support it.

it's the Android app on my Sony Bravia tv. i think it is pushing the 4K and tried today to the same result. and as i said i uninstalled completely and reinstalled so i should have the most updated app. and no wifi as it is hardwired to modem. is there a way to turn the HDR off, if this is what is making it washed out? very odd.

This may not work because I'm using a Roku. But once the movie is pulled up click on the options button. On the Roku menu it gives you three HDR options. Dark, Normal, & Bright. The dark option is what was default for me when I pulled up Wonder Woman and it was dark, washed out, and slightly yellow tinted. When I switch to bright the picture was a lot more clear. Hopefully the Sony tv app has the same options menu and that does the trick.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service launches May 2020

I have a 2019 Roku Ultra and I can't tell if I'm getting a 4K HDR signal on WW84. The menu screen only shows a "HD" badge. Unlike Disney+ which has a 4K HDR badge on whatever content has that capability.

What Roku? I have no such option in my menu.
