Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service

Apparently residuals are tiny for animation in general. Unless the previous head was giving out like untold riches, it's probably worse than we thought:

This es the writer/producer of Close Enough, which was on TBS then moved to Max then was cancelled (and now has been wiped from existence, for now)

That's one heck of a sizzle reel. Lots of good looking shows to watch.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service

Yeah, looking forward to the return of some favorites (like Warrior) and there is still a ton of stuff that I need to start watching.

My annual subscription was set to renew at the end of September, so I went ahead and canceled the renewal, and then I'll hopefully be able to get the discounted subscription as a returning customer in early October.

Looks like Scoob! Holiday Haunt in an unfinished form screened privately for some of the cast and crew

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service

I know Netflix has lost a shit load of money lately, but hopefully it gets licensed to them. They’ve licensed WB properties before like Lucifer, Longmire and currently Manifest and The Sandman.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service

If it's only on CN, and CN does their usual thing with WB/DC properties, I'm going to be ticked. Having it stream is the only way you'd be able to watch it since they always always always mess up the schedule.

Also I know nothing about this particular property but this looked cool, darnit...

This is how film critic/podcaster Witney Siebold describes Discovery's takeover of HBO Max: 'Not only did they shit the bed, but they left the room to get more shit to put on the bed.'

The discussion that he has with William Bibbiani about the disappearing Warner library and old movies on streaming is a pretty good listen. It's roughly the first 9 minutes of this episode:

I’m waiting for them to start removing the animated DC DTV movies.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service

My "guess" is HBO Max wants to position themselves so they are not in direct competition with Disney+, hence the removal of so much "kids" and young adult content. So, theoretically, Disney+ is the "family" app and HBO Max is for adults. At least that seems to be how they're positioning themselves. I think Zaslav is clueless about which of his shows would appeal to grown-ups too, though.

I like variety- if I have to cut down to just one service, the one that has both cartoons and more "mature" content together will be the one I keep.

Try out Kino Cult

Has 70s/80s exploitation from Jean Rollin and Jess Franco that you won't find on another service. And it's completely free (w/ads).

I've checked that out, doubt there's any cartoons on it.

If you checked it out, you would know if there are any cartoons.

Now that I think of it, it would be SUPER creepy to have cartoons AND content such as "Nudist Racket", "The Sinful Nuns" and "The Nude Vampire" but you be you. Besides, don't you have tons of archival cartoons?

It was a joke. They pretty obviously don't have cartoons.

Alan Smithee was talking about preferring a service that has both mature content and cartoons, and you mention a service that explicitly doesn't have cartoons, so not what they're looking for.

It's like if someone said they preferred a restaurant that serves both omnivorous and vegetarian options, and you recommend a vegetarian-only place. Like, I'm sure the place does good vegetarian food, but it's not what the person was wanting.

Or they want to slash costs because Zaslav promised the sharedholders a certain amount of savings and animation is the red headed stepchild and won't cause as many waves with the talent involved.

Yes, this is most likely the reason behind the plan.

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service

The horror series Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin got renewed for a 2nd season by HBO Max

I didn't bother doing a thread for it as the show doesn't fit the demographic of this forum. I have been enjoying it even though it's quite over the top and silly sometimes. It's basically an R rated and more violent version of the long-running Freeform show with more blood and cursing.
