My discovery+ subscription was going to renew in Saturday, I luckily cancelled it right before. I can a few days until Max starts. I’m glad. I’m a Roku owner and don’t have to download a new app.

I have the yearly sub for HBOMax without ads. Are they going to take away my 4K privileges tomorrow because of their new tier?

I thought they said you get to keep 4K for six months.

If you subscribe to HBO Max through an app store or directly through us (at HBOMax.com), there won't be any changes to your subscription price at this time.
[...]
C
urrent HBO Max subscribers will keep their existing HBO Max plan features for at least 6 months after Max launches.

This might have been answered and sorry if it’s a repeat, but do we have to download another app and login and all that? Or just automatic change?

See post 1959. It depends on your system.

Only a few posts back.

So what happens if I'm watching something at midnight on HBO Max? Will my TV blow up or something?

Yes, but you can download a new TV.

As for me, I will watch the latest Shazam movie and avoid Joanna Gaines like the plague.

I got the new app on my iPhone. Looks like I can watch Shazam 2 and the Gremlins show with it. I can find the app on my AndroidTV but it doesn't seem to download.

You have to wait until after Midnight for Android TV and Android phones.

The app has updated on the Roku. So far, I hate it. It's very sluggish. And hard to find stuff. You have to wade through tons of prefilled lists. I wish there was a way to filter the A-Z listings.

The new Discovery stuff is just like a greatest hits. I mean, there's a lot of stuff. But it's missing quite a bit that's available on Discovery+.

Well, I think this is shit so far. It nuked my Continue Watching list, and it dropped the last (or first, depending on how you look at it) item on my Watchlist. I only caught it when I did an A-B comparison of my watchlist with the HBO Max app.

They dropped the Hubs and the Browse categories, both of which I used for content discovery.

It looks like Hubs are now "Brand Spotlight".

Thanks. That helps a bit. It’s just kind of floating there on the home page now rather than having its own navigation menu item.

No update yet on my Roku and I have been able to watch HBO Max with no issues so far

Now it's a pain to find the "Newly Added" and "Last Chance" lists. They also seem not complete when compared to what the HBO Max app showed. Also, the Last Chance list doesn't show the removal date for items.

Terrible rollout for the app. Had to uninstall and reinstall on all devices. Wasn't automatic.

Had to update password on Roku as they now require 10 letters etc. sign in. Thanks!

Continue watching queue pretty screwed up. No longer an option to remove from row?

They should've just changed the skin with the new brand and add more content...

It was a seamless segue in terms of installation. As someone else mentioned it did drop my continue watching and some of the last added series. I had to re-add White House Plumbers. With that said, it looks like WHP is in 4K SDR / Atmos. Last week it was just in HD/5.1, so that was cool.

Completely broken on Nvidia Shield. All of the shows I tried playing froze up and wouldn't start at all

Does it actually play in 4K? I’m reading many complaints that existing subs don’t get 4K anymore.

Noticed that they dropped the "Extras" column in the recent movies that came out. Black Adam for example no longer features them. I mean it was mostly fluff, but it kind of sucks that it was dropped.

Existing subscribers were supposed to keep existing plan features including 4K for at least 6 months from today. That was in the FAQ I linked back a few pages. That linked page no longer exists and I don't see anything in the FAQ now about it.

If the did reverse course and screw over existing subscribers... wow... wtf.

I did have to download the new app thru the app store but when launched it automatically brought over the login info from the old app.

It seems to be working fine so far on my Shield TV from the testing I've done. I don't have it hooked up to a 4K TV though.

Oh, I hadn't gotten that far yet. Yeah, I'm watching Shazam 2 and it's only in HD/Atmos. I went into my subscription and I am in that Legacy ad-free tier and the only tier listed that plays everything in 4K, etc., is $199.99. Holy shit, this is a mess.

Just found this WBD press release from yesterday. Yes... we are supposed to keep existing plan features including 4K/Atmos for at least 6 months.

Use the 3 dots on each individual title to remove it from the list.

Had to install the new app on my LG C1, but I didn't have to log in again. New UI is slower, as the cover images take a couple seconds to pop in every time.

“Dolby Atmos and Vision will be available for select content and devices.”

That's how they're covering their asses. A friend renewed his tier and was charged $174 and some change for the ultimate plan. Fuck that, my plan expires in September. I'm not ready to give them almost $200 just yet. I guess 1080p/Atmos it is until the fall.

EDIT - the chat with customer support was useless and disconnected after being transferred to two reps.

Haven't checked my Roku yet. But HBOMax wouldn't open on my phone then it did and said to Update to "MAX". But then it added a new MAX icon an kept the HBOMax icon on my phone after the update which was weird, so I uninstalled HBOMax now all it does is tell you to update to MAX

One error I’m getting is when scrolling down and across it pops back to the top…incredibly annoying. On AppleTV.

I'm playing around with it on Roku. I like that there's a HBO section, but I wish there was a Discovery Networks section to make it easier to sift through everything. Also, it's as slow as Paramount + now too.

Add me to the list…partway through a year ad-free sub and not getting 4K on the new app.
Hopefully this is a launch glitch…

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

Tested Wonder Woman on our Roku Ultra. It definitely was Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. I have no way with our setup to confirm 4K other than the TV showed it was 4K being sent from Roku to TV. If Max was only sending HD the Roku still upscales to 4K.

b2net 05-23-23 08:51 PM

Re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

I did notice there isn't any indication as to resolution unless a title is specifically 4K and/or Dolby Atmos and/or Dolby Vision. I swear the old version of the app and Roku channel listed if a show was HD and/or 5.1.

And yes Last Chance now stinks without showing the actual last date for last chance.

I'm also having an odd occurrence on Roku that the active row is partially below the screen. I can see the top 1/3 of each title as I scroll left/right. This was after scrolling through home page to get to last chance (as in the lower rows).
