Oh, the next part of Primal will be coming out soon. I'm looking forward to that.

Any chance of HBO Max ever showing (The WB-owned) If Looks Could Kill with Richard Grieco? It's the only movie left that I've yet to check off this action list:
Marshall Julius's Action! The Action Movie A-Z - iCheckMovies.com

Might be finally time to watch all the Police Academy movies- I’ve only ever seen the first one. Is 9 1/2 Weeks the theatrical version or the extended version that’s always been on home video?

Amazon has it via 3rd party on DVD:

Says it's also a DVD-R, but that could go either way.

9 1/2 weeks is a Police Academy sequel? Wow, they took a hard left in that series...

The Snyder Cut of Justice League pumps up HBO Max's ratings.

Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition has now been updated to the new 4K remaster and yes it’s in 4:3. ;) (only for portions of it)

Also, the new 24 minute documentary on the making of the Snyder Cut is now on the extras of the Snyder Cut.

Kind of strange that all 3 seasons of Happy Endings are on HBO Max as it's a Sony show. Sony must have given it to them cheap.

Yup, in DV/Atmos, too.

If you do end up wanting to watch all of them, the original is not on HBO Max. It is however on Peacock.

Once more info is known, it can become a separate thread. It appears they finally finished filming. Put this here instead of the old thread.

"The One where the Friends Reunion Special is Discussed".

You may not need to watch all the Police Academy movies.

I'm looking forward to Mortal Kombat.

I loved the first season of Infinity Train, and I liked the second season, but season 3 just bothered me. I hope S4 is not quite as nihilistic.

I bet the 2021 theatrical movies gave them a big boost. I probably wouldn't be a subscriber without them. Maybe sporadically, a month here and there. But while they're releasing these theatrical movies, I'll continue my subscription.

Dan1boy 04-22-21 03:19 PM

re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

I'd be a subscriber even without the first run films this year. HBO Max is consistently delivering content (movies, series, specials) I watch near daily and their back catalog is super impressive.

Next to Netflix, it's become, by far, my favorite streaming service. 44 million is well-deserved.

I was paying for HBO before so now for the same price I get a lot more. Plus, I find the interface much easier to navigate than most of the other streaming services. I can look for things to watch rather than having to know what I want to watch.

I mean the tweet literally says "thanks to Godzilla vs Kong and ZSJL".

fujishig 04-23-21 08:32 AM

re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

Yeah, ZSJL was dwarfed by Godzilla v. Kong and surpassed by WW (in terms of new subscribers) but I think that was expected, given the length of the film, the fact it was a re-release, and the fact that it targets a demographic that was largely already on there. But it did help the numbers. Their issue is that for whatever reason, they are US only, so that 2.7 million added in that period looks small compared to Disney's 21.2 million added globally. Plus what happens once first run movies are not on the service, and was less than 3 million added subscribers worth the hassle of ticking off all those filmmakers.

Is it me or have these same day releases sucked, for the most part? The series’ I can dig, but these movies have been horrible.

Judas and the Black Messiah was good. Wonder Woman was terrible. The Little Things was fine, and Godzilla Kong was pretty good. Didn’t see Tom and Jerry.

You're basically ragging on WB's 2021 theatrical release slate. Pre-pandemic, WB was hoping people would go to the theaters to watch these.

I really liked Judas and the Black Messiah, and Godzilla vs Kong was dumb fun, for what it's worth.

There's some interesting titles coming up:

$10/month tier with ads if that floats your boat. Starts this June.

As previous articles noted, this will not include access to the theatrical releases this year, although the HBO Original Series will still be ad-free on that tier:

I agree with everything you said, except Godzilla v Kong, which I thought was awful. But as awful as I thought it was, it doesn't come close to the abysmal Tom & Jerry - although I could only make it through 30 minutes.

While some of the "same day as release" movies haven't been awful, I'm sure glad I didn't go to the theater and pay to see them. GvK was pretty entertaining... the rest, well, I'm glad they were "free" (I have Direct TV - so free for me).

I've become a big fan of HBO Max. In fact, I'd say it's probably my favorite new app. Took advantage of their 6 month deal and it ends in June.

I want to continue the service but I find $14.99 a bit prohibitive on the budget. Anyone hear of a continuation offer yet for those who opted for the deal?

I would have cared 15 years ago when I watched the show. Not anymore. I’m sure this will result in another bump in subs - maybe…?

i care. i loved the first 6 seasons. once Chandler and Monica got engaged it went downhill fast. i believe S7 begins after proposal. i'd still watch them all together again.

Just noticed WW84 is back on Max, and in 4K/DV. Same with the first movie, also in 4K. Greenland is also now available, but only in 1080p. Hopefully they’ll start ramping up faster on making 4K available.

OldBoy 05-15-21 07:51 PM

re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

4K won’t make WW84 any better. Nor 3D, not any medium they fit to print it on. The movie plain sucks ass.

Then you can always watch the first one in 4K.

Oh, that’s right…no 4K for you.

not right now and i'm totally fine with that. make a reasonably priced 55" or so 4K TV capable of active 3D with no other accessories necessary (besides glasses) and you got me.
