Anyone have an OTT TV Box?
My friend just gave me a seemingly new box. It’s jailbroken, whatever that means. But I guess I can get some free movies? Is it legal? What exactly is it? I mean I get everything anyway, so is there a purpose to hook up?

Re: Anyone have an OTT TV Box?
Do you mean an Android box with Kodi installed? If so, it's a grey area here in Canada, technically not illegal, so very commonly used. As far as the US, I think the Kodi app itself is legal, but any installed add-ons that allow you to watch movies for free are likely not legal.

Re: Anyone have an OTT TV Box?
Android TV boxes are like Apple TV's or Rokus. You can put official apps Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video, YouTube. There are hundreds of legal and official apps you can install via the Google Play store.
But, you can also side load unofficial apps that have pirated content. It's widely known and there are hundreds of videos on YouTube that show tutorials on how to do it. That's about all I can say regarding this without getting into some shady and grey areas that this forum would not allow mentioned. Kodi is technically legal software, but there are developers who put out add-ons that feature pirated content and pirated live streams. Many of them are getting sued and being forced to shut down their add-ons. The Mi Box (a legal device) is sold by Walmart for about $69 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mi-Box-Android-TV/54827138 It comes with about $76 worth of vouchers for free CBS All-Access, Sling TV, Vudu and Pandora. |
