Re: Movies Anywhere - News, Rumors & Discussion

Seeing reminders in a few posts to go thru MA site to redeem movies. Why?
What am I missing? If the movie ports to iTunes, Vudu etc, why is going thru MA optimal? Thanks in advance for the reply.

I don't know if there's any advantage of redeeming through the Movies Anywhere site.

I prefer to redeem through Vudu. If the movie is MA & UV, that's the only way to get it added to your UV library. If you redeem it at the Movies Anywhere site, they won't activate your UV rights.

Good to know. Thanks, E

I have been redeeming thru Vudu as it's the easiest for me.

I would add that while redeeming HDX codes on VUDU is always fine and usually preferable, redeeming Disney movies on MA is preferable because there isn't a UV entitlement with it and you can immediately get your DMR points as well.
In addition some UHD codes are only redeemable (for UHD) on MA. There is a database that can help you know where to redeem them for UHD rights. I will post it when I get home tonight.

You mean the Google Sheet posted in the wiki that's on the top of every page on this thread?

First FOX, then Lionsgate, and now Universal pulling or pulled out of UV.

Fox and Universal will still have MA while Lionsgate is not at this time.

This leaves Sony, Paramount, and WB as the only Majors providing UV content.

It's odd that Lionsgate would just bail on UV without first moving to MA. Maybe they couldn't afford the licensing for both simultaneously.

I'm kind of hoping maybe something about new studios will get announced at the Apple event on 9/12.

Rats, I might've missed out on a UHD code by redeeming Black Panther at MA.

I redeemed a UHD code for Black Panther on MA and it’s in UHD.

Would 4K look like anything or is it even possible to watch 4K on regular HDTV? Like I know, certainly, it won’t look 4K, but any video boost at all in 1080p?

I don't think MA or any service compatible with MA would stream a UHD version to a regular HDTV. They all likely just send either the max resolution your TV can handle, or the max resolution your bandwidth can handle, whichever is lower.

I haven’t redeemed Infinity War yet, so I’ll do that on VUDU.

You can always redeem Marvel/Disney stuff via MA. They founded that company. You'll get UHD in either place but when you enter the code at MA, you can then get the Disney Movie Rewards without re-entering the code.
No advantage to VUDU redemption as there isn't a UV entitlement.

Remember there's a redemption guide spreadsheet stickied to the top of this thread to let you know where to redeem a code to get a UHD copy.

Just redeemed 20 UV or MA/UV movies on MD2D & non has showed up in my UV library. That was about a hour ago.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure using MD2D has never entitled you to a UV copy, just a VUDU one.

When that has happened to me, I have unlinked and relinked VUDU & UV to sync.

Did any go to MA that were MA?

Yes all 15 went to MA. When I first put titles in my cart about a week ago. I had MA/UV=10, MA=5, & UV=5. Since I found out about Universal leaving UV, I decided to change some titles in my cart today. So MA/UV = 15 & UV=5.

Are you saying to relink Vudu & UV in My UV account? I do not have UV to link to. I have FandangoNOW, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Vudu, & WB Movies All Access or Flixster Video. I did unlink & relink Vudu & it did not change anything over in my UV library.

On (8/16/18) 19 of 25 titles ended up in my UV library using D2D (blu-ray drive on my desktop).

On (8/1/18) 14 of 20 titles ended up in my UV library using MD2D (Mobile).

Re: Movies Anywhere - News, Rumors & Discussion

If they are listed as UV at the time you bought them, I'd suggest calling VUDU customer care right away. If it is after Universal drops UV, it will be a much slimmer chance you will get them into your UV account.

Re: Movies Anywhere - News, Rumors & Discussion

Well, an interesting thing to mention. Supposedly the FOX movies digital codes only redeem in HDX even you purchase the 4K UHD disc.

I tried selling the Predator 3-movie collection code here to no avail. Guess no one needed it or wanted it. So I went ahead and redeemed it on Moviesanywhere.

It actually redeemed in 4K UHD and when I checked it on iTunes, the movies were also 4K UHD. Only place it wasn't was Vudu. Anyone experience this trying to redeem a FOX code?

It switched very recently with their latest batch of new releases. It's because Fox is now owned by Disney, which does give out UHD digital copies.

Apparently this won't work on older codes, since Fox had no system in place distinguishing Blu-ray copies from UHD copies.
