Re: Disney+ streaming service - November 12, 2019 launch

I'm not sure if there are any other deals out there right now besides the verizonwireless one, but E B A T E S has the following if you need a deal:
$10.00 Cash Back on Disney+ Annual Subscription
$7.50 Cash Back on Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ Bundle Subscription
$5.00 Cash Back on Disney+ Monthly Subscription

I haven't had time to check out much yet. Watched Mandalorian twice, Forky and a couple other things. Sampled the beginning of Endgame. I'm not 4k capable yet, but so far mine looks better on Amazon Fire stick than Roku. I liked how the Fire stick could sign you in by launching the app on my iPhone on the same network.
I've been thinking about what my first movie will be, and I think I'm going to go with Gus. I wanted to watch something I don't own and and old one I haven't seen in awhile.

How long is trial period? I don’t think I saw. Didn’t even ask me for credit card or offer subscription for future, which seemed odd...

Nice. I get it all anyway, but want to at least try the app first...

I’ve already mentioned it here, but it looks like the Roku is not streaming 4K content for some reason. I checked Twitter and others are experiencing the same issue.

I don’t have capabilities but that blows for Rokuers. Maybe in future?

It's supposed to. It's obviously a glitch.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, been running straight from Roku Ultra and a TCL Roku TV. No issues whatsoever, and all have been in 4K for the stuff available that way.

So much for trying a Roku as an alternative to my Fire Stick issue.

Yeah, my TCL Roku is doing Dolby Digital, at least on what I checked (Star Wars mainly).

I think this algorithm might need some work:

-Me: *Watches 10 Things I Hate About You*
-D+: Because you watched 10 Things I Hate About You, watch Never Been Kissed.
-Me: Sure, I’ve never seen it, and it counts for the comedy challenge.
-D+: Because you watched Never Been Kissed, watch 10 Things I Hate About You.

My TCL Roku is playing Rogue One in 4K Dolby Vision. Of course, it's 4am. So there's probably not much traffic. Maybe they're turning off 4K during peak hours.

Re: Disney+ streaming service - November 12, 2019 launch

I told the wife I plan on giving this a go this weekend and see how this works going thru the PS4 on the Projector and LG TV up in the main room. We have Amazon prime, Cinemax and a OTA for local stuff but I'll gladly give up Cinemax for Disney.

On this Disney + Hulu + ESPN...is that deal only thru the web site or does it show up when you sign up thru a device?

I believe its through a browser. I tried finding the deal via my phone but had no luck.
I went in for the monthly deal with Hulu. Last November i managed to get the deal on Hulu for 99 cents a month for a year and that is ending this weekend. We now have Netflix (which we use primarily for movies), Hulu (Use for TV shows), Disney (Variety) and ESPN (Which will most likely never get watched unless there is the WSOP on it). So paying around $25 a month compared to twelve months ago when i still had cable and was paying $125 a month for basic cable to Dish Network. Moving away from Cable to streaming was a smart move. Of course there is a problem if the net goes down, but then i have my Nvidia Shield with a hard drive attached with thousands of TV and movies to watch as a back up.

I know it’s been asked, not sure if anyone has been charged and can even verify the answer yet, but I’m curious what they’ll charge 3 year members to upgrade. Will they charge the normally $6 difference between the regular monthly plus and bundle price? Or bump us fully up to the $12.99 monthly cost, billing ~$9 a month?

Also, no upgrade path from the bundle to commercial free Hulu has been revealed from what I’ve read.

On the Apple TV, I'm noticing that if I'm watching a series there is no visual progress cue that I've watched a program already when I go back to Disney+. Has anyone else noticed that?

Like I said, it's probably going to take at least 2-2 1/2 years before this becomes the one and only stop for all things Disney, Marvel and Star Wars.
I had no idea The Boys was a Disney product.

Yes, it's one of the biggest flaws. Apparently they did have a recently watched section early on but they turned it off, maybe due to traffic, maybe because it's buggy. But there's no way to know what you already watched, even if you browse directly to a series where you know you watched some episodes there no indicator or placemarker or anything. It does (usually) resume if you continue the same episode so it is keeping track, though.

So far the bugs I've seen/heard:
  • No recently watched list, even though it was there in the very beginning
  • Some content gets listed as not available during high traffic times
  • Some content does not get displayed in 4k/Dolby during high traffic times
  • Episode order is messed up on some seasons of shows
  • The Simpsons and (I think) Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers are these horrid, zoomed, cropped widescreen presentations from the original 4:3 format
  • Subtitles are either always on or can't be toggled

Re: Disney+ streaming service - November 12, 2019 launch

When I scanned through the channel on my Roku yesterday, I didn't have all of the seasons of The Simpsons available. Quite a few seasons were missing. I have not checked again, and probably won't until I hear that the aspect ratio situation is resolved.

I was happy to see a fair amount of stuff under the NatGeo section, and hope to see more added as time goes on.

I haven't actually had a chance to watch anything yet. Hopefully this weekend.
