re: Disney+ streaming service - November 12, 2019 launch

Sounds like they're just going to limit concurrent streams. Which is already done by most streaming services. Hulu only allows 1 stream at a time.

If they allow 3 streams, that would be enough for my family and my brother's family to share. I doubt we'd all use more than 3 streams at a time.

They can geolocate IP addresses and compare them to account logins. I can see them easily doing that. Of course, they just need to have a family plan to allow families to stuff like that.

That would cause a lot of problems. Lots of people use their streaming accounts while on vacation. College students use them at school, and when they come back home. Some people have long work commutes and watch them while on the bus/train.

Problems for the customer, yes. Hence my idea about a family plan or something.

According to this article, the crackdown is for people subscribing thru Charter not directly with Disney.

https://arstechnica.com/information-...able-industry/

I'll make sure I order directly from Disney if I subscribe.

Looks like Disney+ will be on all platforms - except Amazon. I’m ditching my stupid Fire Cube. It’s just not worth it.

Thanks for the article! Yes, it will launch in Canada for $90 on the same day as US. Day one for me. Plus I get to stream it on my Apple TV and PS4.

That's kind of surprising. Is there some kind of dispute between them again? I use a firestick on my main tv so that would kind of suck (though I have a shield and a roku on the other two so I can probably switch the shield out.

I'm sure they will eventually add it to Amazon. I think it's just a matter of getting the proper licensing worked out. It's a way too popular platform to ignore.

I'm hoping it gets added to LG's WebOS, as it's much easier to use the apps from my TV than to jump over to my Roku, but I will if I need to.

Amazon and Disney have been in an ongoing dispute. This just seems to be a continuation of it.

They do have Movies Anywhere on Amazon, so either that will get removed or Disney+ will be added. But the Amazon platform will suffer without it.

They have Hulu as well, right? Disney should just put Disney + as a premium option into the Hulu app - seeing as almost everything has it already.

I think their business strategy of keeping Disney+ as child friendly service, will keep Hulu and Disney+ apps separate.

That's already been done. It was announced recently that Hulu is bundling Disney + and ESPN + to their ad supported version for $12.99.

But there is no word if there will be an only Disney + add-on.

Yeah, I know this, but I thought there would still be three separate apps. No?

Maybe, but it wouldn't make sense at this point since they are bundling. Expect some new apps to launch when this goes live.

Wonder if there will be a deal for non-D23 attendees.

Damn, 4 streams and no upcharge for streaming in 4K. Netflix is about to leave my house.

I’m hoping this makes Netflix drop 4K as an up charge. Fucking ridiculous.

Yeah the 4K upcharge on Netflix is bullshit.

This will definitely put pressure on them to maybe reassess their prices.
