Looks like there's going to be some MoviesAnywhere deal between the 6th to the 12th (from what I can piece together, it sounds like a buy a movie get some bonus movie deal, but that's just an educated guess)

"Our biggest offer ever" = buy a movie and get one free... from a selection that studio decides.

Purchase from thousands & choose a bonus movie – on us!*

Buy a Sony, Universal, Warner Bros. or 20th Century Fox get one of the free ones from same studio.

That seems....underwhelming? If I'm reading it right? I'm ok with the Studio limitation. But you basically have 5 (10 for Disney/20th) to choose from as your free one?
I just bought an MA movie on Vudu last night, and I prefer five-bucks-off sale price I got it at.

It's a lame sale, but I will probably dip in to the Sony pool. First Men in the Moon appears to be eligible at a sale price of 6 bucks with which I'll finally pull the trigger on 5th Element. 2 for 6 isn't bad.

I will of course update if that doesn't work. 😂

Defiant 04-06-21 11:49 AM

Re: The kinda all streaming deals thread

Not all movies for those studios are eligible. And putting a code in doesn't seem to work (at least, I tried one I got as a reward from Universal, and it didn't give me anything extra) - I wonder if MD2D work.

Anyway, there's a movie I was keeping an eye on (Gideon of Scotland Yard) that is eligible and is finally on sale down to $6, so I guess I'll pick that up and get an extra movie.

It seems to. I used it this morning for a Sony title and got an email offering me to chose my free movie. I had them all except Runaway, so I took that.

Re: The kinda all streaming deals thread

Looks like it is only 1 freebie per studio or at least so far for me. I purchased 2 from the Disney Fox set and only received 1 bonus code.

The bonus code will only allow picking a movie not already in the library or upgrade the resolution of one that is there.

In the fine print, they only offer 1 bonus movie per studio, for a max of 4.

I would have upgraded both Maze Runner titles if they'd provided 2 codes for my 2 Disney Fox purchases.

Some of the movies like Leap Year and Tower Heist aren't available in 4K anywhere right now. You get the 4K rights, if any streaming service ever adds the 4K version.

OK, I might choose to upgrade Alien: Covenant ....

Re: The kinda all streaming deals thread

I can see the reasoning behind calling it a “big offer” because of the number of eligible titles. “Best offer” maybe not, but there’s probably a title or two in each studio’s bucket that I’d be interested in so I’ll check the offers. Kinda feeling like a dummy for recently D2Ding Pride and Prejudice and Leap Year, though.

Since I only have the only good Sony choice already (Fifth Element), which of the remaining dreck is the best one to pick? They all have bad RT scores.

Battle: Los Angeles was pretty good. I like Runaway, but I'm a fan of 80's flicks.

The Sony bucket is the thinnest for me as well, even though I only own one. If I redeem that offer, I’ll probably go for Final Fantasy, which I remember not hating back in the DVD era. Maybe I hated the ending—it was a long time ago.

The odd thing is you can only buy Battle: Los Angeles from the Microsoft store, and it's listed as an Xbox exclusive with 24 extra minutes.
I can't find a word about this "extended edition" anywhere.

I picked up Police Academy. I have never seen it. It was on sale for $4.99 and chose The Wedding Singer for my free movie.

Sometimes streaming services put the extra features after the movie. So they'll list a 2 hour movie as 2.5 hours. Amazon often does this. I'm not sure about MS.

Grabbed Kuffs for $4.99 hoping to get upgrade for Leap Year to 4K. The Universal selection won't allow an upgrade. The Disney Fox ones do allow an upgrade for their 4K offerings.

Not correct. I used my Universal code to upgrade Pride and Prejudice to 4K.

Maybe it is only a situation for Leap Year or Leap Year is no longer allowing upgrades as theBigDave pointed out it isn't available anywhere in 4K yet.

^ I was shocked to see Cocktail has a 7% score on Rotten Tomatoes. I knew it wasn’t a masterpiece or anything, but I don’t recall it being terrible either.
