Re: Pluto TV (Roku) - "The best channel you're not yet watching"
Yeah when I first started watching Pluto TV on the XBOX 360 there were no ads and it was just a weird collection of Niche Channels. MST3k, Riff Traxx, SHOUT, etc. Then the ads started creeping in. Hey, they gotta make money...but still. Anyway, now it feels a lot more like a mainstream cable channel...with channels. Oh well, I still watch it...

Since I quit cable over a year ago, one of the things I missed the most was MSNBC. Pluto has an NBC News channel that provides the recommended daily allowance of Trump-bashing.
I wish I were still young enough to make use of the Eye Candy channel that shows Kaloopy videos 24/7 for its intended purpose. Oh, to have had this around when I was a teenager!
Yes the way the ads just pop up so randomly is crazy, and the repetition of the ads gets irritating, but it's free programming.

Eye Candy is a great channel. And the music is pretty good too

Pluto recently added a bunch of channels pulling content from Viacom's cable offerings: MTV Pluto TV, BET Pluto TV, Comedy Central Pluto TV, Nick Pluto TV, Nick Jr. Pluto TV, Comedy Central Stan Up, MTV The Hills, MTV Dating, MTV Teen, MTV Guy Code, Spike Pluto TV, Spike Outdoors, CMT Westerns, Paramount Movie Channel
I tuned into the Comedy Central channel this evening. It was nice to watch Kroll Show, which I hadn't seen in years. But damn, they inserted a LOT of ad breaks. (I don't know why I expected these channels to be different than Pluto's others. Ha.)

I added this channel recently. I have been watching old episodes of The Challenge and Are You The One? as background noise while I do chores. They seem to run commercials for the same companies over and over though.

More channels added recently: Pluto TV Christmas, Holiday Lights, Pluto TV Mistletoe, Fireplace, Pluto TV Winter Sports, Curiosity to Inspire, Pluto TV Election, Leverage, and Naruto.
I love that Viacom is adding more channels left and right, but I'm not interested in most of them, so there's increasingly more noise to cut through when scrolling the grid. I remembered there was a "favorites" option and finally went to use it this morning. Unfortunately I found that functionality is gone, at least for the time being.

Yeah they add those Xmas channels for the holidays then take them off. Scrolling through the grid on Roku is a challenge. I also wish there was a ""Back" feature to go back to channels that aren't next to each other. I wish I could Hide all the Sports channels.

Re: Pluto TV (Roku) - "The best channel you're not yet watching"
Anyone else have this happen? I was watching Three Days of the Condor with Robert Redford from where he is leaving the building through the back entrance. He gets to the deli and the bad guys go into his building to start shooting his co-workers when it jumped back to before he left the building. I thought it was a flashback at first, like he was remembering what happened right before he left after he found the bodies, but he hadn't gotten back to the building yet when it jumped backwards. I switched over to a different channel so I didn't see if it happened again so I was wondering if anyone else had that happen during a movie. I watch the replays of the Challenge and it hasn't happened as well as other TV shows and cartoons.

This morning I noticed there was an update for the mobile app on my phone (Android), which restores the favorites feature and adds one that hides channels. Hopefully they do a similar update for the Roku app soon.

Redbox has just released a similar Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV service.

https://www.redbox.com/stream-free-live-tv
Redbox, best known for its network of fire-engine-red DVD-rental kiosks, has thrown its hat into the free-TV ring — with an ad-supported service that looks a lot like ViacomCBS’s Pluto TV.
The company’s Redbox Free Live TV service, which soft-launched earlier this month, is now available nationwide as of Tuesday (Feb. 18). Like Pluto TV’s core service, Redbox’s version streams video in a linear fashion, like a traditional TV channel, with scheduled blocks of shows — in other words, you can’t select titles you want to watch.
In addition to Lionsgate, partners currently include Fremantle (“Family Feud”), FilmRise (“Unsolved Mysteries,” “Forensic Files” and a collection of movies), Vin Di Bona Prods.’ “AFV,” TMZ, USA Today, Jukin Media’s FailArmy and Pet Collective, Group Nine’s NowThis, Gravitas, Kabillion, Comedy Dynamics, Maverick Movies, People Are Awesome, and Cinedigm’s Dove Now, Docurama and ConTV.
The AVOD service currently has close to 30 channels, and Smith said Redbox plans to launch about 10 new ones every month. “We’ll figure out what content really resonates with consumers and continue to expand on that,” Smith said.
Redbox Free Live TV is available on Roku, iPhone, Apple TV, Android, Vizio and LG smart TV, as well as on the Redbox website.

Anyone who has the Pluto TV app on their phone, is it showing a notification that you can't seem to clear? I've had the little 1 on the app showing on my phone for a few weeks now, can't seem to figure out how to get rid of it.
