Hulu or Netflix?

i'm thinking of only going with one of these after my 1 week Hulu free trial is over.

Which is the better service for digital content in terms of quality and quantity?

You don't have Netflix?

Original movies, shows, definitely get Netflix if you're only getting one. They have the Marvel shows, House of Cards, Orange is the new Black among the most notable. They're spending $6B on new content this year.

Hulu is mainly known for watching current TV on NBC, ABC, The CW and FOX.

I have Netflix currently. I like that it has Seinfeld and Mindy Project though...

Just get both, they compliment one another very well.

Up until a few months ago, I would have said Netflix. But I've been in love with Hulu ever since the commercial-free option.

This. They've got me hooked on the Marvel shows and now I'm waiting for the new seasons of OitNB and Narcos.

So this card gives me what exactly, a whole year for 22.99?

And this is legal, considering 11.99/mo normal price?

They're gift cards that are sold in stores and included in boxed deals (ie: new TVs / media players), there are some shady fuckers selling them too.

I haven't had an issue.

Re: Hulu or Netflix?

Quality - Netflix. Hulu only does 720p and 2.0 sound. While Netflix is DD+ 5.1 and 1080p.

Content - they really are not even the same thing. Hulu is mainly current TV seasons. While Netflix is older content plus an increasingly buzz worthy slate of original shows. Most of which are up to par with what you find on HBO.

So for 20 bucks do both if you can. There is very little overlap.

Re: Hulu or Netflix?

Netflix and 1 time sub to PlayOn/PlayLater so you can watch/record regular free Hulu (not Hulu+) on your tv/streaming device.

This. It's like comparing Amazon paid video with Prime video--two different animals.

Do they release any of their original content on BD/DVD?

Unless they deactivate your service.

I think it happened to me because I bought too many and they noticed me. In any case, I think I'm done with those assholes.

I think it depends on who you buy the cards from and if you try to abuse it and stack them. Just look at the feedback on the seller. Stacking the cards looks very suspicious meaning buying 2-3 of those cards and trying to pad your account for 2-3 years.

Re: Hulu or Netflix?

I've done the cheap gift card once and have had no issues. I paid $20-something for it. I noticed a seller a few months ago had them for $12 or so. I steered clear because I didn't want to "stack"a code on to my current subscription and that price seemed so low that I figured it would cause problems.

Decker 01-26-16 08:54 PM

Re: Hulu or Netflix?

Yeah, stacking them was a big mistake. Now I figure if I ever try it again they'll flag my account.

I did get a refund from eBay, but since it was purchased in CAN, I ate about 30% of my purchase in exchange rate and looked like a bad buyer in the process.

GatorDeb 01-27-16 04:23 AM

Re: Hulu or Netflix?

I noticed a $16.50 seller who couldn't accept payments and a $16.99 seller with a bad feedback that the buyer's account was blocked. I bought a second one from the same one I bought the first one from, $22.99. Mine expires in about 5 months (I have it frozen until Grey's restarts) but the second worked great also.

These are "$100 giftcards." Wonder when I restart it if I could get Showtime added. That means that for $46 a year I'd have Hulu and showtime.

Depends on what your looking for. Hulu having the vast majority of the Criterion Collection available for commercial free streaming might make it the ideal thing for a foreign film or classic movie buff. Netflix has a lot of more original shows and catalog series overall but nowhere near the film content Hulu has. Also what may be a negative is other then Criterion Collection everything on Hulu you have to deal with commercials.

Personally for me I just add Netflix 2-3 months then put it on hold/cancel for the rest of the year because aside from OITNB,Bojack Horseman and their Marvel shows the only original series aren't really that good(Hemlock Grove/House Of Cards are basically Showtime quality fake highbrow trash)and their movie selection has a lot of stuff I think most people have seen years ago already.

Either way though if your someone who likes to sample a lot of new things both services have a shitload of content

Re: Hulu or Netflix?

I bought four cards and stacked them two weeks ago. I wasn't aware this was something Hulu would deactivate the account over. How long ago did this happen to you, Decker?
