Fandor - International, Indie and Classic Films

Anyone here subscribe to Fandor?

https://www.fandor.com/

It's a streaming service that specializes in independent, international and classic films. There are apps for Roku, Chromecast, Android, Kindle and iPad/iPhone.

They have a great selection of obscure Cult, Horror and Foreign films from companies like Severin, Synapse, eOne, Something Weird, Tartan, Kino Lorber, Media Blasters, Tai Seng, VCI, and Criterion.

It looks like they just dropped their subscription price. Previously, they charged $10/mo or $90/yr. The new prices are $7.50/mo or $70/yr.

I tried them out before. Love the movie selection, although I wish there were more HD titles. I wasn't crazy about the high price, which is why I dropped my membership. But those new prices look pretty decent. I might go for the annual plan.

With that price drop, I think I'll sign back up.

Best deal of the weekend! Been debating joining for months. Glad I waited.

It's been awhile. Any new input on this service?

Re: Fandor - International, Indie and Classic Films

I've been a member for a few months. They'd offered me a renewal rate for $4/month, which was a decent price.

I'm a little disappointed that they don't seem to add much. There's a batch of new criterion titles every other week. Those rotate in and out. But other than that, nothing that really interests me.

My main reason for subscribing is their decent selection of Horror films. They have some rare giallos, cult movies and classics. But Shudder has picked up a lot of them in the past year.

I've got around 20 movies on my watchlist. I should probably get around to watching those and cancel my subscription.

Thanks. I wonder if they get to keep the Criterion cycle after that TCM service starts?

Re: Fandor - International, Indie and Classic Films

As you can see from my post above, I signed up during last year's sale and have been very happy with the service. Fandor quickly became my most watched streaming service and I probably still have 150 titles in my queue, almost all of them cult and obscure titles.

I do agree that the they don't add things at the same pace as other channels but their existing library is so extensive that I haven't minded as yet. In fact, I came back to this thread looking for another annual sale!

Bottom line: if you're a fan of cult films or art house fare, they are a great compliment to Netflix and Amazon.

I just noticed Fandor is now available as an Add-On Service at Amazon. And the price is only $3.99/month.

MoviePass members can now get Fandor for $1.99/month (for the first 12 months). Any comments on how good/bad the service is?

Excellent service, excellent selection. For $1.99 a month, I'd say it's a no-brainer.

Shit. I might have to check it out now. As long as there's no contract...

I'm sure it's the standard they'll change you the going monthly rate after those 12 discounted months.

My finger was hovering over the final button to commit, but then I had a brief moment of clarity and closed the tab. Netflix, Prime, Shudder, HBO, 600+ Criterions, and a million other DVDs should be enough.

Costco has a pretty sweet deal right now; a year of MoviePass and Fandor both for $89.

They have a website(last time I looked).

I dropped a few channels recently from Amazon(Cinemax,Shudder and Screambox) and decided to keep Fandor and Full Moon.

That is for the snarky and helpful comment.

I saw the website I looked at the app.
Everything is a scroll based search through.

I was asking for someone who has fandor to offer suggestions for specific things that aren’t on other services.

Can you do that or can you just offer more snark?

Sorry I did mean too be that way.

Oh. I appreciate that. Thanks.

Maybe I misread it.

They have a lot of international movies, indie/arthouse flicks, short films and documentary/historical stuff.

If you're having trouble browsing their website, check out their storefront at Amazon:

If you subscribe, don't pay full price ($10/month). Look around for a discount. Or subscribe through Amazon ($3.99/month). Amazon has almost the entire catalog, except for some Mature Content.

I have it from costco and moviepass.

Time for us Costco subscribers to get some of our money’s worth. The website is fairly decent for searching for films and building a queue.

Fandor offering 50% off yearly subscription "for filmstruck subscribers" but it doesn't seem they care much to check, so it's basically a sale for everyone where you can get a year of a very good service for $24.99!

I can't post URLs yet and it doesn't pop up on their front page, but if you google fandor and filmstruck you'll get a variety article that will take you there.

Re: Fandor - International, Indie and Classic Films

Updating this: Just got an email from Fandor asking to verify my Filmstruck username. So it seems like they do have access to some way to do that.
