Are the shows 'live' or can you stream them anytime?

Sling TV has some great ideas for features, such as the DVR-like ability to pause and rewind, but currently only a couple channels support that. The channels that do support it also let you go back and watch whatever aired earlier On Demand, or restart current episodes from the beginning. Like I'm on HGTV right now, I can scroll back a few days and watch anything that aired whenever I want, I can also pause and rewind. This doesn't work on ESPN. HGTV, Food Network, Travel Channel, El Rey, Maker, and Gala Vision are the only ones that currently support that feature (in the Core package). Oh and there's a bunch of free Bollywood movies. I really like the setup of SlingTV, I hope very much they can expand on it. It also has a very nice overall interface, especially when compared to some of the cable boxes I've used lately. |
Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
From what I can tell this is made for light TV watchers who don't use a DVR. I think this is more intended for live viewing.
|
Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
The thing I can't understand is why they've made it next to impossible to fast forward on the older HGTV shows. Apparently you can only ff for a second before it reverts to playing.

I'm betting it will be 10-15 bucks per month. Directv still won't even negotiate with Viacom to at least offer it a la carte. |

What, precisely, does Epix offer that, say, Netflix doesn't? I look at Epix's website, and it seems as though everything they have is offered by Netflix.

Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
Is there any kind of DVR or playback feature (basically on demand?)
|
Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
IFC and AMC were added to the base package today. Hurray.

I don't have Travel Channel on my Comcast package so I've been watching that a lot, playing catch up on No Reservations and Layover.

Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
More additions to the core package coming this month:
Sling will add A&E, History, H2 and Lifetime to its core package by the end of this month. |
Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
They're adding some pretty excellent channels to the base package. I wonder how long before the price increases...
|
Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
I re-upped for a month with the Epix movie pack for shits and grins, the on-demand for Epix kind of works. Most of the movies are on Netflix, so it's more like paying $5 for 4 Netflix channels of random crap
|
Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
I noticed new channels tonight. WE, truTV, and some others. If the price stays (relatively) the same, this is an amazing deal. The quality far surpasses what I was getting through the Dish satellite.
|
Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
And if those other channels get added this month...holy hell, I'm DFL!
|
Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
Apparently if you purchase a new XBox One, you will get a free 3 month trial.
Current XBox One owners get a 1 month free trial. |

Maybe it's time to stop with the core package?
Any more additions, I can see the price creep happening, and before we know we'll be back where we started. |

Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
I think there's plenty of room in the core package for ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX because they make their money on ads, not charging the provider a fee. Shouldn't raise the price at all.

Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
Anyone else seeing a message that this content can't be streamed on Sling? That's going to piss me of if they start picking and choosing which shows we get. What's next, AMC days no Walking Dead?

As for actual "Content Restricted" stuff, it's only happening with A&E which is fair since the channel was just added and allows for the DVR-style functionality (go back 3 or so days), I'm sure they'll get it squared away. They may have been better off just doing a forced live stream instead of the added feature if it meant 100% broadcast. In otherwords, Sling shot themselves in the foot by giving us a new feature that wasn't ready for primetime. |

Incorrect. They charge a re-transmission fee, which would probably be too expensive for a bare minimum service like this.

I also saw it today with IFC and some Mel Gibson movie as well as A&E and Lifetime. I looked up what was on A&E and they blacked out Twister and another movie. Hopefully Sling won't cut out again at 9pm tomorrow night for Walking Dead. 2 of the last 3 weeks it's cut out right as the new WD episode starts. Looks like they can't handle the surge of people logging in at the same time... |

Sling will offer HBO as an add on for $15 per month |
Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
I might have to subscribe to this. I recently cut the cord, and the hardest part for me is not being able to have the cartoon network always on as background noise :(
|
Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
Yeah, I have it for background noise too (Cartoon Network, TBS, and Travel Channel mostly).

Sling will offer HBO as an add on for $15 per month So now I can get a lite version basic cable + HBO for $35/mo. Vs the $110 I was paying DirecTV. |

Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
Signed up on Sunday for the free Amazon Fire Stick but it won't be in stock until the end of the month. They have the same deal for a Roku Streaming Stick so if you are planning on ordering and want to do the 3 months to get a free device you should go with the Roku stick so you get it right away.
I even called Sling TV to try to switch but they said their was nothing they could do because I had already ordered the Amazon stick. Update: I was able to cancel and then resubscribe with the Roku Stick offer. I had to call to do it but I should have the Roku stick by Friday or Monday. Sounds like an overseas call center but they were very helpful. |
Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
Can I still get this free stick thing if I signed up a few weeks ago? I'll call them anyway.
|
Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
I would recommend the Roku Stick over the Amazon Fire Stick (Roku Stick $50 vs. Fire Stick $40). Sling TV mails you the Roku Stick in 2-3 days whereas you have to order the Amazon Stick from Amazon and they won't be in stock until 4/28. Also to get either one you have to sign up for 3 months in advance. If your first month is coming to an end you can just cancel and resign up for the next 3 months.

Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
I'm using my Xbox one for Sling. Any advantage to the Roku stick? I plan to stick with Sling, so should I at least get one for free? Currently on the 1 month trial.
|
Re: Dish's Sling TV - Streaming TV
I like the Roku menu system better plus they have more a lot more apps than the Fire Stick.
