Yes, but it will cut the expiration date by roughly 3 months. I just did it and my expiration date moved up from May 2016 to February.

Hmmm decisions decisions...... I only use it to watch Grey's Anatomy and The Biggest Loser but they're finally getting some good content, there's something coming up about someone who directs acrobats. And there's a really cool series that I'll try for sure called Quantico coming up.

Why do a small number of TV shows still have ads?

Damn 12 bucks...If it was 10, might be willing, but 12 bucks a month is kind of pushing it just to skip about 3-4 mins a show.

I don't mind the commercials. I do wish there was a little more variety than the two or three I see played over and over again.

The shows don't pay for themselves. They're expensive and the money to cover it needs to either come from the ads or subscribers covering the lost ad revenue. The extra $4 to cover that isn't unreasonable IMO.

I know most people complain, bitch and moan about commercials, but without them most shows wouldn't exist.

Re: Hulu announces ad-free $11.99 tier

I'm loving ad-free Hulu. I would've paid $15-$16 to get rid of commercials, so $11.99 is a bargain.

I can see the new episodes (even On Demand usually has commercials) but like Netflix, the season before or older shows doesn't need it. Netflix has been doing it for years, before they REALLY took off. Hulu is adding some good stuff, but $4 is a huge rip for this. For that price, might as well buy a DVR and record stuff just to fast forward the commercials.

Big difference though, this is currently airing season content on Hulu. That's why the rights are more costly.

By the time Netflix gets it, usually on a season delay and on home video already, the rights are much cheaper.

DVR is certainly not cheaper considering you would need a cable subscription to go along with it. Yes, I know you can use DVR with over-the-air TV, but Hulu does have a few cable shows too, so you have to include cable if you're going to do a fair comparison. Even at $12 for Hulu and $8 for Netflix, that's only $20 a month, which is far far far far cheaper than a cable subscription.

Re: Hulu announces ad-free $11.99 tier

That's why I say ads should play for the new episodes as it makes sense. But stuff that's on Netflix or years ago should not have ads.

And I have cable anyways. I'm a sports guy and need to watch sports. You need cable for that. So cable isn't the deal breaker. It's watching shows that I can't watch when it is on. So to pay $12 for Hulu when that can get a DVR box, makes no sense. And chances are, the majority (more than 50%) have Hulu and cable.

I'm pretty sure all movies on Hulu are commercial free. I could be wrong, but I don't remember ever seeing an ad break during a movie.

Re: Hulu announces ad-free $11.99 tier

Started watching an episode of The Bridge and 5 minutes in I get 2 commercials. Fuck that shit. That's a major buzz kill when I'm all into a show. Looks like I'll be going the 11.99 route now.

Re: Hulu announces ad-free $11.99 tier

It seems like Hulu has increased the number of commercials for those who aren't paying for the ad-free tier. I'm definitely making the switch next time I fire it up.

Re: Hulu announces ad-free $11.99 tier

I absolutely hate ads of any kind. I still don't see myself subscribing anytime soon...although it is more tempting.

Netflix, Amazon, VUDU and thousands of DVD's are just fine with me. Just my opinion though.

And I'm just fine waiting for a year or two for seasons of shows.

It seems to be inconsistent. Some do, some don't. I've found one show even has my local affiliate bug, but oddly, not the one they have on their broadcast.

I'm trying this out for the trail period, but it remains to be seen whether it's worth $12/mo.

Another value add is that I can (probably) cast Showtime to Chromecast now via the Hulu app. And get rid of the dreadful Apple TV that I only bought because of it's exclusives with HBO Now/Showtime. But I have to wait for my Apple subscription to expire before I can re-sub & try this one out.

It sucks that some of the Comedy Central shows aren't having their new seasons air on Hulu anymore. I really want to watch the new seasons of Review and Drunk History but I'm not paying $20-25 apiece to watch them on amazon.

If you have a Roku, get the Comedy Central channel. They have every episode of Review and the current season of Drunk History. It requires sign-in with a TV provider.
