Agree with you DJariya, getting a bit pricey. Love Hulu w/o ads but if it's going to save us $, will consider including ads. Afterall, P+ and Tubi aren't obnoxious with ad breaks. Both tolerable.
There is a $19.99 plan with no ads for Disney+ and Hulu. ESPN+ will still have ads but this bundle is $19.99 and will stay that price when December rolls around.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

I currently have the 3rd option - which currently is $75.99.

$7 price increase, yikes. But I don't see a cheaper option for Hulu Live (no ads).

I've got ad-supported tiers on Hulu and also Paramount+. I'm not sure if both services do this, but on at least one of them if I am watching a tv show that was originally aired on a network with commercial breaks, the streaming service will ignore those and just insert ads abruptly in the middle of a scene. You can still tell where the original commercial breaks were because a scene will end and the screen will fade to black for a couple of seconds before the next scene starts. Kinda frustrating that they don't align their ads to those original breaks.

My Hulu is free from when I had SPRINT which is now T-Mobile. I'm grandfathered in but I do wonder when if it will go away.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

When my Disney + 3-year subscription runs out in November, I will probably bundle it with Hulu No ads and ESPN +

Currently I'm at $12.99 per month with this.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

HULU raising prices starting October 10.

$7.99 Subscription
$7.00 for Ad Free Premium.

So far Verizon is picking up the bill for basic as it is included in the Disney Bundle and we pay $6 for Ad Free Premium. Will be interesting to see if we now will pay $7 or $8 depending on if Verizon absorbs the basic subscription increase.

Used to be able to look ahead at upcoming charges. The link for that seems to be unavailable at the moment.

Even mentioned in this help article.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

With our 3-year Disney+ deal coming to an end in November, I'm looking at all of the package deals. With ESPN+ are we able to watch the home teams play at all? NBA, WNBA, and MLB? Not sure that's worth it to me if I can't watch the local teams.

It may be subject to local blackouts:

You might be able to get around blackouts with a VPN.

In order to watch the Wolves and Twins, you need access to Bally Sports. ESPN plus will only carry an occasional National game for MLB. As far as I know they don’t broadcast National NBA streaming. Regular ESPN will televise NBA.

I suppose I wouldn't be able to use a VPN using the ESPN+ app on our Roku to watch a game on the TV though, huh.

I guess you could do something like hook the Roku up to a Raspberry Pi box and have the Raspberry Pi establish the VPN to a VPN service. Something like this:

I just noticed True Lies is available to stream. I know it wasn't widely available in a lot of places, so that's cool it's here for now.

It does look really good on Hulu. Good HD quality. Still enjoy it immensely and love the theme song.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

I don’t recall ever having ads play during a movie before, only at the start. I watched a movie last night and it had multiple ad breaks. Has it always been like that and I’ve been lucky or is this something new?

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

Do you have Hulu Live or just the Hulu library subscription?

For example - if you're watching an On Demand movie via Hulu Live, you'll get the On Demand ad breaks (TBS, USA, SyFy, etc)

No, just the regular plan with ads. From what I could find on Twitter, this a recent change.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

Hulu + Live TV Price Increase in December 2022
https://techcrunch.com/2022/11/04/hulu-set-to-raise-the-cost-of-the-hulu-live-tv-bundle-in-december/

A
month after Hulu raised the subscription prices of its on-demand streaming service, it is now targeting the subscribers of its live TV streaming bundle. Parent company Disney announced in August that it would increase the cost of the Hulu Live TV bundle later in the year.

Starting on December 8, Hulu Live TV subscribers will have to pay $74.99 per month for the bundle with Hulu Live TV (Ads), ESPN+ (Ads) and Disney+ (No Ads)– which was previously the basic $69.99/month plan.

Since Disney+’s ad-supported plan is launching on December 8, subscribers can opt for a Hulu Live TV plan with ads for $69.99 per month. The plan will include the new Disney+ tier with ads, “Disney+ Basic,” as well as Hulu Live TV (Ads) and ESPN+ (Ads).

The premium plan with Hulu Live TV (No Ads), ESPN+ (Ads) and Disney+ (No Ads) will increase to $82.99 per month, up from $75.99/month.

Those who only want live TV content and not Hulu streaming content or Disney+ and ESPN+ content can pay $68.99 per month.

It’s, unfortunately, very standard for streaming services to hike up their prices, especially Hulu Live TV, which has increased its plan every year since 2019. In 2021, the company increased the Hulu Live TV bundle from $64.99/month to $69.99/month, up from $54.99/month in 2019. At launch, Hulu Live TV was only $39.99/month before it offered the Disney+/ESPN+ bundle.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

I don’t understand this part of the new pricing:

Hulu basic (ads) + Live TV, Disney (no ads), ESPN (ads) = $74.99

Hulu basic (ads) = $7.99
Hulu basic (no ads) = $14.99
Net Difference = $7.00

$74.99 + $7 for Hulu Basic no ads upgrade = $81.99

Hulu basic (no ads) + Live TV, Disney (no ads), ESPN (ads) = $82.99

Why will I be paying $1 more? I currently have the plan that will be increasing to $82.99. I tried researching before I call Hulu later.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

So I called Hulu and basically they don't have a reason for the $82.99 price, instead of an $81.99 price

The customer service agent understood my question. So she had a sidebar chat with an escalated manager, who kept referring to the Disney+ difference between the $74.99 vs. $82.99 plan. But from my understanding, both those plans are Disney+ (no ads). So the customer service agent didn't understand either. She said I was the first person to bring this price anomaly up.

I guess it is what it is. Getting screwed over with nonsense pricing. Disney - at least make it make sense.

Side note - I do quality assurance for a living, so I audit everything.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

The last time was probably in 2021 - ViacomCBS 14 additional networks - Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, Paramount Network, etc

Though I don't have an answer for add-ons that are a premium price.

I would be more concerned about channels being taken away, due to failed negotiations (like other service providers). I haven't run across that problem ever since I started using Hulu Live in 2019. It's the reason why I chose Hulu over YouTube TV. Disney has a lot of entertainment power and usually makes things happen. Sure, Google is just as powerful, but Disney is DISNEY.
