Make a difference which device I use to stream?
 

i have several devices now set up in the man cave to stream content. i have a Sony TV, Sony Blu-ray player and an XBOX 360.

I tend to just stream Netflix and Amazon through TV which it streams in HD and never had any network drop outs, but wondering if the player or XBOX will look better.

So my question is...will it make a difference in audio/video depending on which device I use? meaning is one device better quality than the others for strictly streaming content?

At one point only certain devices supported 1080p streaming, and not all streamed in DD+; however, it's possible that's changed. Assuming it has, any A/V differences among devices are probably going to be slight. Your broadband speed is going to have a bigger impact.

I think the Xbox 360 only does 720p on Netflix. I don't know about your TV and BD Player.

Amazon is 720p on all devices.

i think Blu player and TV both do 1080i. i guess it doesn't matter too much then...

I've been wondering this, I have a Sony S3100 and I can't seem to get Netflix to buffer above 720p, I've been wondering if it's the player, Netflix's servers, or my wifi. My dad's Smart TV won't seem to either. And I don't know about Vudu, my display doesn't tell me what it streams in. Although ass-ignorant as I am about my HD stuff, it's possible I simply haven't modulated the settings properly.

Yes, some devices stream certain services better than others. In some cases it is because the device has official support from the streaming company. There have been some hints that the videogame companies have had to pay the streaming services for their app.

My device isn't listed, even though I use it. I'm sure the list is still pending updating. Damn, and here I thought I was investing in something which would negate the need for a streaming box. Not that 720p looks too bad, especially on my midrange TV. Given that I occasionally get a message to downshift when I use HDX on Vudu, I think assuming that 720p is probably the upper limit is reasonable though. So it goes.
