I pay for YouTube Premium, but I’ve never watched one of their originals. The only one I’d consider watching is Cobra Kai which I sort of just forgot about. None of the rest of their original content interests me at all. I just pay for Premium as I watch regular YouTube enough where I don’t like sitting through the ads.

I typically watch through the app on my iPhone or Xbox One or Galaxy tablet. I don’t really use the browser version.

When will this rollout, and will previous Youtube Red content be available for free? I haven't watched all of Cobra Kai yet.

Since 2015, YouTube’s original content was only available to consumers willing to subscribe to the company’s streaming service, YouTube Premium. However, the company plans to combine its current Premium Originals and existing ad supported initiatives into a single programming effort that — by 2020 — will provide free, ad-supported “windows” for YouTube users.

YMMV, but I just went to YouTube Premium to sign up again in time for Cobra Kai and got a 1 month free trial.
Last year when I had it, I paid for the 1 month.

Has the Youtube Premium free version been cancelled? It never came to fruition.

YouTube is cutting back on scripted shows.
They just cancelled Step Up: High Water and a few others since March.
and I got an e-mail today detailing how the ad supported version for their originals will be working:
Basically if you're still paying for YouTube, you will get your content ad free.

Yeah, there seems to be no real reason to keep paying for Premium, and they'll probably even phase that out sooner or later. For those worried that the cutback on scripted shows will affect Cobra Kai - don't worry. It's not going anywhere as long as those involved want to keep doing it.

I subscribe to Premium because I don't want to watch ads on regular Youtube videos. I don't care about their Original Shows. The only one I've watched is Cobra Kai.

FYI
If you have T-Mobile, tomorrow they are giving out 2 months of YouTube Premium for free.
Regular price is $11.99/month
I've actually stuck paying the $11.99/month plan since I re-signed up last year. I've gotten so used now to watching content with no commercial breaks.

So I went ahead and used it.
I had to cancel 1st and then re-activate with the promo.
Only problem was that I was in the middle of a billing cycle and was already paid for the month. So YouTube only gave me 1 month for free. I guess it's better than nothing.

I got signed up through the T-mobile Tuesday App and followed the instructions. I just have to cancel it by May 24th so it doesn't automatically bill for a third month. Now I can watch both seasons of Cobra Kai.
