so what is the deal with that? why convert to the less accessible after release it must have been?

You can only watch them on portable devices and desktops.

i know. i'm not questioning that. i'm questioning why they would convert them from the easier, better Vudu extras to this silly Extras+?

$4.99 Killer Deals are up.

Big Dave already gave us the best one...but there are plenty others here.

Fright Night, Sleepy Hollow, What Lies Beneath, Dolores Claiborne, Prince of Darkness, etc.

Personally, I want to get Dolores Claiborne (which I'm probably of 3 people who have never seen it), and Lego Scooby Doo: Haunted Hollywood (The Lego Scooby Doo's seem to be better than the other animated Scooby Doo movies and my toddler likes them a lot). Kiss of the Damned also looks interesting. And watch your UV/MA stuff...some of these are, some of them are not.

^ Be careful on those John Carpenter titles -- I remember buying They Live a while ago just to have a digital copy of it and it's in 1.78: as opposed to 2.35:1.

I have been hoping Ernest Scared Stupid would show up on one of these sales, but it hasn't yet. It's annoying watching the old dvd and I want the widescreen version of the movie.

Same here for me with The Calling. It's a dvd only title with Susan Sarandon and Topher Grace. It passed under most people's radars but i picked it up from Redbox (back when I still used the service) one night and was left wondering why this didn't do better. Since then, I've been trying to get a blu-rayish quality copy but they won't budge off of their $13.99 pricing.

EDIT: It apparently is a M2D title though. *whistle*...

Do you mean the disc to digital service, I tried it for Ernest Scared stupid and it said its not eligible. I even asked them about it on their facebook page, and they responded back saying Disney determines what movies are eligible and its not.

They Live is an MA title, I wonder if it's OAR on any other services.

Wow, just loaded up on a bunch of kid friendly Halloween stuff, plus the Mummy Trilogy and Gremlins 2 pack in HDX.

Coraline/ParNorman
Monsters vs Aliens
Curse of the WereRabbit
Gremlins 1/2
The Brendan Fraiser Mummy 3 film series

Then for me:
Cloverfield and 1988 Blob for 4.99 each.

Not a bad haul.

Touchstone movies are almost never on sale. I've only seen a handful of titles discounted over the past years. I'd be very surprised if it shows up in any of these Halloween sales.

Your best bet is to save up some Amazon Prime No-Rush Shipping credits (if you're an Amazon Prime member). Or pick-up a discounted iTunes card. You can often find those for 15%-20% Off. Or you might be able to buy some Vudu Credits. There's often $5 credits being sold for $2.50.

They Live is OAR (2.35:1) on iTunes and the MA app. It's 1.85:1 on Amazon. I haven't checked GP.

It's also OAR at FandangoNow. If you own it at Vudu, it'll transfer to FN since it's UV.

The Movies Anywhere app is excellent. It seems to have fixed every OAR problem from Vudu. Blazing Saddles, Kelly's Heroes. Towering Inferno, 300, Batman Begins, Die Hard 2, A Few Good Men, and every other title I checked is OAR on the MA app.

And I think the video quality on the MA app is really good. I have no idea about the details (codec, bitrate, framerate, etc). But I think it looks great on my TV. Maybe even better than Vudu HDX.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Ernest Scared Stupid has been on Blu-Ray from Mill Creek for a while, I got it for less than 5 bucks.

And yes, the Movies Anywhere app is suprisingly good- the interface is a bit clunky but playback is great- they seem to have everything in the right ratio and 5.1 sound on all titles that have it, though a few titles on Vudu are 7.1 but only 5.1 on Movies Anywhere and it also doesn't support UHD. While some reports have varied, I've also found that the SD-only titles I had elsewhere are playing in HD on Movies Anywhere.

Disney doesn't participate in Vudu's D2D service.

I've checked and none of my SD only titles (not from iTunes, but any of the other providers) are in anything other than SD on MA. May be the titles themselves that have that are SD to HD upgraded, while the ones I have are not.

I would do it, but MGM isn't participating in Movies Anywhere, so it would be one of the films that wouldn't download in iTunes.

(This is more of a note for MGM if they're watching -- not that they care.)

Your loss on that one...SOTL in UHD is excellent. I had the chance to watch 20/30 minutes of it on Friday night thru Vudu and my 4k set, and it was much improved. It gave me chills all over again.

It does look really good. Only shame is that there’s no Atmos track for it. Good enveloping atmospheric remastered sound would have added to it. But I’ll gladly take the much better 4K picture for $5.

I have it on Criterion, and my two Sony televisions aren't 4K, so it's okay. It would be significantly more than $5 for me to make that upgrade. I use iTunes and Vudu mostly for convenience of not having to find the DVD and put it in the player.

I agree. It's a steal for $5. Scariest movie I've seen in theaters. One of the best movies ever made. I'll support MGM's digital titles once they:

1. Align with MA.
2. Stop forcing SD downloads on blu-ray purchases. (Which is what they did with my copy of Skyfall.)

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Sony has been slowly updating their movies. Many that were previously SD-only are now available in HDX.

So if you D2D'ed some Sony movies in SD, you might want to check and see if they're available in HDX now.

I recently upgraded:

Used Cars
Things Change
Anatomy
Who's Harry Crumb
The New Kids
The Messengers
Obsession
Happy Birthday To Me
House of Flying Daggers
The Devil's Backbone
