Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Looks like the Back To The Future Blu-rays are finally eligible for D2D. Until now, only the DVDs worked.

Saw this posted in the Vudu Forum:

Back to the Future I, II & III on Blu-Ray are finally available for D2D, and actually work. The first disc gives the option for all 3 movies.

Vudu seems to be pretty damn successful at the moment, it looks like for HDX streaming, Walmart don't have many rivals.

Didn't Amazon shut down some online gaming system they had and people lost all their saved game? And Amazon has shut down people's account without explanation and they lose ALL access to content. I'm not against shutting off people from their store but bought content should be downloadable even on a final one-time basis.

I'm thinking ten years down the road. I still own the first DVDs I purchased in 1997.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Ten years down the road I can see Vudu actually being more prominent. The only influence Walmart has really had on them is the removal of pornography. Their HDX is still very impressive and I do like that I can download copies of my movies from the service.

But beyond that, Ultraviolet lasting is more important.

That's why I remain somewhat paranoid about digital distribution. Look at how that price of the Criterion disc of The Third Man skyrocketed, or lots of other famous OOP DVDs. I know it's slightly paranoid, but I can't help but worry about digital content going away because of rights issues.

What was it ? I don't know, if streaming is the future, and it certainly appears to be, Vudu seem to be kings of the hill at the moment, and don't appear to be going anywhere.

And the fact that profits from anything you buy from them go to Walmart. It's what's kept me away in spite of some nice content.

The HDX load seems to be a bit more than my wifi can handle sometimes, but yeah, it is nice.

Starting my UV account is the only reason I even know what Vudu is. And then there's Disney refusing to cooperate with Vudu and my Blu-Ray player's limited apps. I'm sure a lot of this stuff will work itself out, but a disc is a disc. It seems like the infighting from the companies has at least caused some degree of complication with digital distribution. And that's not even counting Apple's Draconian crackdown on anything that isn't my iPhone or PC. If I could put the stuff on a USB stick or something, I might a little more trusting. Granted, I could get a laptop and connect it to my HDTV, but still.

I've been thinking about getting Broken Circle Breakdown. However, I'll probably just watch it on Amazon Prime.

I also thought about getting Resolution. But I've already seen it at Netflix, and I doubt I'd watch it twice.

I ended up buying Grave Encounters. I saw it about a year ago on Netflix. It's still available there. Anyways, it's not a great movie, but I enjoyed it.

I saw this last year. It's an excellent film, but incredibly depressing. Highly recommended.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Dealing with VUDU's limited customer service is an exercise in frustration. It's quickly apparent dealing with them that reps are gun-shy about fixing issues.

Given my experiences, I suspect it is poorly outsourced to a foreign company.

Do you call or email? I have only had great experience via their telephone support.

I agree. The best way to fix problems is through their forum. There's a couple moderators that actually have the ability to get stuff done. Look for DanielH. You can even send him a PM.

Does anyone still see RoboCop at Walmart with the Vudu code? None of the three stores in my area have them in the bins.

The original? The version I picked didn't have a UV code, unfortunately.

Right now they've got the first episode of each season of "24" for free- I need to finally check that out. And if that's not enough, they've just put up another free episode of Bad Girls Club!

Yes, I swear that I've read here or on the Vudu forums that Walmart gives out a code with the Robocop BD. Now that it's UV-compatible, I definitely want it for my collection.
