Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Question: redeeming Star Wars: Force Awakens through DMR/DMA *should* also send it to Vudu/Google/iTunes shouldn't it..? And, presuming that's a given, what about the specially-coded-for-DMA-extras code from the Target exclusive version - should I still be able to watch it at Vudu..?

Yes, if you redeem through Disney Movie Rewards, it ports over as a UV code (meaning you can watch it on Vudu, Flixster, etc) and in iTunes. The Target exclusives will only appear on the Disney Movies app.

Close, but not exactly right. DMA shares content with VUDU, iTunes, Google Play, Xbox Video and Amazon Instant Video, but it isn't a UV code and won't play on other UV services besides VUDU.

Okay, it's some weird shit like that. Sucks they still don't have any clear way to easily explain how all this works. Hell, most of us don't know.

I've successfully converted all ten of the Trek movies from the Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection (2009 box set) and Star Trek The Original Motion Picture Collection (2016 collection). Both were Blu-ray Discs, but I would imagine their DVD counterparts would also work.

I love it when that happens. Especially loved it when I was converting discs that I may or may not have borrowed from my local library, and could only find one of the discs.

Just saved myself a trip to the cinema - just scooped up The Invitation (HDX) for $9.99. I'd say it was worth it - my trip, parking, and movie ticket would have been more than that and it's a blind buy either way.

Thanks for the heads up. I was just reading some reviews and thought it looked good. So I grabbed it.

Normally, I'd probably wait for the Blu-ray release and buy someone's UV code. But since this is a Drafthouse movie, they have their own digital downloads instead of UV or iTunes codes.

No worries. It saved me a trip to the theater and it's raining here, so that worked out. Too bad the film was a bore. I would have really been pissed if I had seen it in theaters.

They're about the same as a DVD, which depending on the film, can still look pretty damn cool.

As WSB stated, they're roughly DVD quality.

If I were you, I'd put it in my Wishlist and wait for it to go HDX. Otherwise you'll most likely have to buy it again when it does go HDX. This does happen - Karate Kid is a great example of a title going HDX later.

Yeah, then get it from Amazon. Do you have PRIME? HD is HD and PRIME has films in 5.1, too, so if that's your only option then go for it.

I was told by Vudu that their contract with the studio for the movie I was asking about (Heavy Metal) was just for SD. I would imagine that when that deal runs out, they'll add HD/HDX. It sucks that other providers out there have it in high def, and Vudu doesn't, but I'll be patient and wait.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

surprised it wasn't mentioned, but Vudu has a new release sale for $9.99 each.

Titles include Revenant, Daddy's Home, Good Dinosaur, Mockingjay pt 2, Point Break, and Victor Frankenstein.

Pretty good deal on Good Dinosaur if I didn't own it on blu-ray already.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I love how Point Break is $9.99 for HDX, but $29.99 for UHD. They really need to stop that shit. But good sale overall. Too bad I already have all the ones I'm interested in. But that price on new releases is what will spur those on the fence to go digital only.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

MGM has added a bunch of catalog titles in the past 2-3 weeks. Lots of good stuff from the 80's and 90's. Some of them were previously only available for Rental, and can now be purchased. Here's a few that were on my list:

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Four Weddings & A Funeral
Pumpkinhead
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
Beat Street
Career Opportunities
FX
Blame it on Rio
Desperately Seeking Susan
Easy Money

They've been adding movies in batches every few days. I'm still hoping they'll bring back King Of Hearts and Hot Dog: The Movie.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Any word on whether or not they'll start participating in the disc to digital program? Cause there's no way in hell I'll pay $13.99 for a catalog title.

Before a title can be considered for D2D, it has to be Ultraviolet. MGM titles don't go UV very often, and I don't know if there is a single one that is D2D eligible.

So that's a 'Not bloody likely'.

So MGM is just dragging ass in jumping into the digital era.
