So what you're saying is go into your UV account and take an existing share and change the email address to a different one?

Yes. You can change the names, and the email address. Again, this worked for me several months ago during the inception of Movies Anywhere. Not sure if other changes were made to restrict the same in the past few months.

That absolutely blows. I mean Disney I’ve heard but Shape of Water. They all say UV/MA though...

Just based on limited movies I’ve purchased lately. . Hopefully it will still work for other titles. Do share your experience if it does....

Sharing seems to still work for my account. My buddy purchased "American Made" the other day and it's showing up in my account. However, I'm not sure if it's working correctly the opposite direction (if I buy something new he can see it).

For those who have a Vizio and get newsletters - I just got an email for a redemption code for $5 off The Last Jedi.

Also, on the front page of Vudu, there’s an ad to get Draft Day for free. I already have it.

So Draft Day seems to be one of Vudu’s March free movies with ads.

Molly's Game and Den of Thieves are not up for pre-order on VUDU. They are at the other usual places and looks like the digital copies will be iTunes only. Come on VUDU!

It looks like Vudu is making changes to the MD2D. Now they have you take a photo of the UPC code instead of a scan.

Seems better.

How would one take a scan. Actually would have to use a scanner to do it?

Then what, send a fax in?

Based on the instructions, that's already how the Android App works.

Looking back on archive.org, it looks like they've moved D2D out of the iOS App into the Mobile Web:
https://web.archive.org/web/20180203...o_digital.html

One possibility is that since a D2D conversion technically counts as a "purchase," Apple was insisting on a 30% cut of each conversion. Moving it to the web instead of in the app circumvents the app revenue sharing.

I'm not sure how Vudu gets away with not revenue sharing on Android via Google Play. Or maybe they do have to revenue share there to, so they'll move D2D on Android to the web browser soon as well, but they're doing iOS first, because that's the bigger market share.

In the Android app, the app takes control of the camera, and "scans" the barcode by having you place the barcode inside a box on the screen.

This shows the procedure, but it doesn't show the on-screen box:

This video demonstrates at about the 2:30 mark:

The new "Mobile Web" version actually has you take a picture. The difference I believe is due to how iOS treats Web "apps" and native (i.e. App Store) apps different. Native apps can take direct control of the camera, so they can "see" through the camera without necessarily taking a photo. However, Web sites can't directly control the camera (likely to prevent spying), so instead it needs you to take a photo, and then it can "scan" that photo to find a barcode.

Actually, what was happening before is that the iOS app would just scan the barcode and add it to your cart, but in order to complete the M2D purchase (and for VUDU to avoid the 30% cut), you'd have to e-mail yourself a link, or go to the cart in your browser to checkout and pay.

Now, they've moved the whole process into the browser, so that you can complete the whole purchase in one swoop. I guess that will help them from a customer confusion standpoint and avoid abandoned carts.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I imagine that it's because you can look up any UPC at a site such as www.upcitemdb.com , not really own the title, and scan the upc and get the discounted movie.

Nothing in the Android or iOS apps, or likely in the new iOS web version, really stops you from doing that. There is a 100-conversions-a-year limit though. The website isn't likely storing the photo as "evidence," but just scanning it for barcode info and discarding it.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I tried doing a disc to digital conversion on my "We are Your Friends" DVD. It never got a bluray release, and it didn't work. I put in the dvd it said "Couldn't identify the disc", and it asked me to report the error. I thought it would work.

You can try scanning the barcode in the mobile app.

So I'm going to have to start taking photos of the UPCs I find on blu-ray.com? Hmm ...

Edit: From the subsequent posts, it looks like this is still possible. Although probably frowned upon and possibly unethical.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

For now, I'm going to avoid updating to the VUDU 6.0 app (iOS), which removes the in-app barcode scanning. I'll continue to use in-app scanning (worked for me last night) until they disable it.
