Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
I tried doing a disc to digital conversion on my "We are Your Friends" DVD. It never got a bluray release, and it didn't work. I put in the dvd it said "Couldn't identify the disc", and it asked me to report the error. I thought it would work.

It looks like Vudu is making changes to the MD2D. Now they have you take a photo of the UPC code instead of a scan.
https://blog.vudu.com/convert-disc-t...phone-browser/ Edit: From the subsequent posts, it looks like this is still possible. Although probably frowned upon and possibly unethical. |
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
For now, I'm going to avoid updating to the VUDU 6.0 app (iOS), which removes the in-app barcode scanning. I'll continue to use in-app scanning (worked for me last night) until they disable it.

The website isn't likely storing the photo as "evidence," but just scanning it for barcode info and discarding it.

Decent stuff and prices on the animation/Easter deals right now.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
That's how fraud usually occurs. Because they're too lazy to do it the honest way. Yeah...I have like 65% of my UPC's that are smudged...
|
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Oh, and for the record, I was totally just asking that question above for a friend.
I figure that Vudu had figured out the UPC loophole before the app ever launched and figured the location detection service would appease studio concerns. At least the studios are getting some revenue vs. traditional forms of piracy where they get zilch. |
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Studios are doing their best to make sure us folks don't get around the system like that. And if they could, they'd want to hold all the rights hostage and force us to subscribe to keep digital rights or something like that. This will be never ending. I guess with physical media, they can easily tell when there's a sale.
|
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
So I read Vudu's terms of service, and using a UPC from some other source doesn't violate anything -- as long as you to currently own and have possession of a physical copy of the movie.
Come to think of it, I actually do have a binder full of old DVDs without cases somewhere in storage, but I'm not sure the $5 HD upconversion is really even worth it for most of the titles. You should've done those when they still had the 50% off promotion(s). $2.50 to convert a DVD to HDX is much more reasonable.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
During the 50% off period I was scanning them with my blu-ray drive. But so many discs were not being recognized. I did not find out about the mobile App until just before the 50% off period ended.
Even though $2 for HDX is still cheap I use it for only movies I really like. Plus I will scan them with the mobile App first. If that works then I will try the blu-ray discs in my blu-ray burner & see it that works. Since I don't think there is a limit of 100 using the dvd burner program, I could be wrong about that though. |
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
anyone have the problem where Vudu D2D doesn't recognize billing address as home address and have remedied so you can scan and get digital?

I've had the Location check in the Vudu Mobile app fail before, but typically just letting it try again fixes it. There's also a way to set your location using the "Mock Locations" developer feature in Android, but I don't know if that works with the Vudu app: https://trendblog.net/fake-gps-location-android/ |

Dude, I love you, but you are a walking user error. :) |
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Easy to miss this one, but with the TV Season Sale going on right now you can get the (almost) Complete X-Files series (Season 1-10) for $49.99. I am VERY tempted to pull the trigger on that.
|
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Scooped up that x-files deal. Great price!
|
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
I went ahead and picked it up as well. Also makes it a little better having the T-Mobile credit to lower the cost a little.
|
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
I picked up two Peanuts movies (Race for Your Life and Bob Voyage) in the $10 mix-and-match. They’re also a $15 bundle. :)
If I were a Little House on the Prairie fan, I’d be tempted by the $19.99 nine-season deal. :) |

Man that is tempting for little house. 200 HD eps for $20

That is a good price. But after buying the original DVD sets when we all thought $99 for an entire season was a good deal, and then the Complete Set, and then the BDs for like $7 a season, I’m done spending money of X-Files.
Likewise and I was one of those saying that I would not spend money on that series after the BD's, and they pulled me back in. |
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
So is there an updated list of UV compatible movies? I would like to prioritize these for purchases as I at least can still share these movies w family and friends.
|
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Twilight Zone seasons are on sale for $14.99 each (HDX).

I don't remember any of those 4 being on sale anytime recently. Trying to get my toddler slowly into them, he likes Tiny Toons a lot, so maybe I can get him into some of these. (Even so daddy likes them just fine) |

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
You can still redeem a UV code on FandangoNow. There's still an option for it, although it does say regarding Fox, "Fox titles not eligible".

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Not sure, I haven't redeemed any UV in a while. My guess is that they'd follow the usual route - that is if the movie is available on UV and MA, it'll port to those accordingly. If it's only UV, probably just FN and Vudu as well as in our UV account.
|
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Redeeming/purchasing:
VUDU - If the title is UV it ports to UV locker. If MA it ports to MA ecosystem. If UV/MA ports to both. FandangoNOW - If UV it ports to UV. If MA it ports to MA. If UV/MA it only ports to MA. Incoming: VUDU - accepts porting in from both UV and MA. VUDU passes UV to MA but not MA to UV. FandangoNOW - Accepts porting in from both UV and MA -BUT- will set your resolution to what comes from MA even if you have a higher res in UV. Does not pass UV to MA nor MA to UV. Listings: VUDU - shows if a title is UV, MA, or UV/MA. FandangoNOW - shows if a title is UV exclusively. If a title is MA exclusively or UV/MA, only lists MA. |
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Very informative, thanks.
|
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Which studios are exclusively MA? I was under the impression it was just Disney, but maybe that's changing.
|
Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
I wish the '80s sale were two for $10 instead of three for $20. :(
